Stole a suggestion from Sakurama from his garage thread "Mid-Century Moto Mecca Makeover" and i'm very pleased with the results. I'm sure others share my frustration with Stud finders and the fact that most of them aren't able to fulfill their 'raison d'être'. This guy works great, it actually shows the width of a stud with accuracy. I did some tests in the basement where one side of the wall is finished and you can see the stud on the other. It works! What a concept!
This shot clearly shows the magic lol... With this poorly taped seam, the LED lights show the width and placement of the stud.
Its likely cheaper in the states but the best price in Canada I've found was at Canadian Tire @ $49, Home Depot was $10 more. Anyway just thought i would share this nugget of information, a solid tool to own.

I'll have to read every line more carefully to figure out what the floor is going to look like. Looks like you left the old floor behind huh? I've been scheming on new ways to rearrange mine just to mix it up. That is the fun of you getting to move and combine all your favorite ideas in the new place. Off to a great start already.

Just read your entire thread, congrats on the new space. As a fellow Canuck I get a kick out of seeing your CanTire purchases. Great GLI as well, I've owned a bunch of MkIVs. Are your wheels 1552s?

The wheels on the GLI right now are 3SDM 0.05's. So are you a fan of CT or a hater?
I'm a fan. I've got plenty of Mastercraft tools that I've been using for a lot of years.
I'm slowly getting my garage together so it's cool to see your use of items I can purchase locally.
Well wifey is off on another trip so that means garage progress for me hahaha. Finally committed to adding a shelf above one of my garage door rails. I was initially a little hesitant on which side but in maintaining my vision for each side this made sense. I don't want to put anything along the GLI wall that i wouldn't be able to access during the winter. I think having things at the nose of the car and in front is sufficient. This way i can access anything i need at any point without much hassle, that's the plan at least. The by product was also needing to shuffle a couple items and hanging one that had needed a place. My newly acquired stud finder was a real treat to use for the first time. As you can see from these pics the studs weren't exactly even.

I really enjoy your attention to detail.
The storage shelf looks very clean. I've been going back and forth on putting some shelves up to hold the kids' stuff. I can't decide between shelves with bins like you've done or building out some cabinets. I like the look of what you've done.

The shelf is great, but plain identical containers are needed (IMO) or else it can looked cluttered.Flooring plans yes.....Haven't elaborated though as nothing is finalized at this point. I am however planning to seal it this week and possibly order Race Deck shortly. I've been debating about making this happen before or after winter.
Did you cash in on the rock bottom price. Felt like i was paid to take it away hahaha.

Yeah, I really want to paint my floor, but the logistics of moving pretty much everything out for a couple days just isn't too feasible for me (should of done it when I bought the place, oh well).
I may go the RD route, if I can do it for a good price.

Dubber, you've made great progress in the new space. I just managed to power through the last bit of the thread today. Nice to see the garage up and running so quickly. I'm sure it helped a lot to have a week (or two?) to yourself to just bang out the work.
Keep it up, you've done a great job so far. There's a strange feeling of ... airiness? to your space that you don't often get in garages. I think it's a combination of the colour, the high ceiling, and the clean wall space. Just feels big and open.

The storage bins are great for hiding all the clutter, keeps the garage clean looking. I bought a few to store stuff on top of my cabinets. Hides all thestuff, and other misc **** I had in smaller boxes.

Hey OJ, thanks for reading through the whole thread, much appreciated. Your very right, that two week period when my wife was gone, definitely helped to kick start the garage transition. Not that she gives any kind of grief or guilt (I'm very fortunate) but its the self placed guilt that i don't have when I'm solo. To your "airiness" comment, i completely agree, its hard to put my finger on it but it must be the sum of several factors. I definitely feel it when I'm in there and i can see it in the pics, as others can as well it seems
I'm very happy that the wall colour came out the way i had hoped. It was a fine line between adding a 'colour' and still keeping it as open and bright as possible. Again, thanks for commenting.

I decided that i wanted to add a layer of protection, that was also reasonably priced and easy to work with. Went with Behr Premium Wet-Look sealer. Finished the first coat last night and the second coat will go on tonight. I used their Etcher prior to this application during the cleaning process. It won't be the best protection out there but i wanted to give the floor a little boost in the fight against the coming winter and all that corrosive salt.

I used the Behr wet sealant on the garage this year when i redid the floor but added a bit of flake. Nothing has happened to it yet even after dragging either the jack or the car on the dollies around on it.

i used almost 2 full containers on 440sqft of flooring, let it dry for about 2 days before heavy foot traffic and had a car parked on cardboard within a week( not a daily driver)

And I did in fact pay just under 80 bucks for the toolbox! Ball bearings aren't the best on that thing but for the price; can't complain too much!

I'm planning to do a Race Deck flooring (again) but this time i really wanted to help the flooring a bit from the salt. Glad to hear you got the box at the same price. Honestly for the price, i love it. Have your bolts holding the bottom wheels loosened or tried to jump ship? I've moved mine a fair bit and that's one of my only complaints. Super awkward to access them as well.

Added the second coat tonight. I was happy to see/feel the result after a day of the first coat drying. I could tell where i had done and where i hadn't. There was a definite tactile difference in the texture the treated section felt slippery. I'm hoping this is exactly what i was looking for to help wick away the melting snow and salt. Prior to these two coats i had also added a Polyurethance waterproof concrete sealant around the whole perimeter where the footer meets the floor. I've since covered that with this sealant as well. I will also be painting the corners the same as my last garage where I painted about an inch of the actual floor. This helps to hide the transition between the wall and the starting of the Race Deck flooring.

Sorry to derail the thread for a second. That looks great and is a very good idea! Did you just apply the sealant and sprinkle the flakes over the wet sealant?

exactly how i did it, then once they were on the wet sealant i applied a few layers over them as well.
i was out there at least 4 times, twice before i added the flake and twice after to make sure that it had properly dried/tacked up.
