So how much of a pain in the *** was it for you to paint be foundation wall? The damn pin holes are irritating.

Hahaha, well i have to say no matter what, its worth it. Transforms the look. You need to use a brush and lots of paint. Soo many crevices.

Yes sir, been there, done that, twice! Did the same thing in my old garage. You really have to glob the paint in there. Yours actually looks a lot smoother than mine were. Good luck man!

Look at the difference it made on mine.

I've since gotten ride of all of those wires, and painted that pipe also black. Transformed it completely.

Thanks, I was thinking of using a q-tip or smaller brush

Have to share these sweet Fall pics with my GJ family taken by a buddy this past weekend. Spent Saturday in the garage giving her a thorough cleaning prior.

That thing is amazing. One of my first Christmas gifts from my Father-in-law. Definitely not something i use often but when there is a need, its really the only thing that fits the bill. Best part is how it stores so easily between requirements.

Looking good, dubber. I love nice fall photo sessions for the car. I always wanted one driving past on a fall road with leaves swirling in the wake of the car. I saw that done with a black Supra once and wanted to do it ever since, just haven't gotten around to it.

Sweet pics!

I've been sick, and haven't done my fall cleaning/seal yet - I missed all the good weather to do it, it seems...

It always sneaks up on me too. Yesterday was the sad day of taking down our gazebo and all deck furniture into the shed. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, sheds save garages hahaha. That thing takes so many pieces its insane.

Same thing here. Instead of a shed I have a few outdoor storage containers, so I end up lugging all our outdoor furniture and cushions into our undeveloped basement for the winter. Not a fun job. Winter shall soon be upon us...

That is the upside of an undeveloped space. You guys have plans on changing that? We have two smaller rooms left undeveloped that i've maximized for storage. One is roughed in for a 4th bathroom, but with just the two of us, i have no need haha.

Hi there, nice updates as usual! Did I miss the pics of the shed you speak of??

I'll fish one out, good call.

EDIT: Found one! Think its a 8x10 life saver haha. That thing is stuffed. All lawn items, deck pieces, two bikes, lawnmower and car parts :) But like everything else, being organized has helped the space.

I wish! Spent some time in Huntington beach and Orange County recently, awesome spots.

Received a few more edited fall pics.

Car, shed, and backyard are looking good! I think I need a few more sheds... They certainly come in handy.

Soooo handy hahaha.

dubber,
Your car and shed look great.
I like the look of your car rims.

Thanks! I'm super happy with the wheels. Scored them used, somewhat locally. Period correct German wheels for my German ride. Not sure if i had already mentioned it but while detailing them prior to install i noticed that they are actually manufactured by Borbet. Awesome surprise considering they make several OEM wheels for VW and Audi.

Wow Dubber, first time seeing this thread as its all new to me. Read through the whole thing this morning and now I'm exhausted! lol.... But seriously, good work, your garage looks amazing. Hoping mine will turn out as nice as yours. I may have to borrow a few of your ideas to apply to my build. ;)

Please feel free to poach some ideas and share your project. I always enjoy following new projects.

Currently my garage is sitting with one under the cover and one super clean :) We received a dump of snow last night which means i'm not looking forward to pulling out of the garage

Built some great memories over the weekend in the garage that had a positive effect on a few generations of the family. My grandpa had been sick and unable to get his winter tires put on before our last couple of large snow dumps. Reached out to me over the weekend and my uncle brought him and my nephew over to help and hang out. Very fun experience showing my nephew how the process works and was able to get him involved for a few portions of the process. Had the TV going in the background to occupy gramps as he was supervising the process. :D

Anyway great memory created all as a result of a fun space that I'm happy to call my own.

Quality time with Gramps....you can't put a price on that and that makes every bit of effort to get your garage the way it is completely worth it.

That is excellent!

Making a mental note to self to be sure that there will be a place to sit / hang out in the garage when I finish the other corner...

OK, so it's the Tuesday before Christmas (I hear that's cause for a holiday somewhere ). And the sun is long gone, so a few drinks have been had.

So Dubber, while I may not contribute here a lot, I do appreciate what you're doing (for you and for us) - and I wish you, and yours, a whole heartedly fantastic and prosperous Christmas.

I cannot describe (in manly words) what this site means to me. More power to You and yours.

Have a great Christmas, and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

Easily overlooked. Its a key feature in my space. Great for hanging out and also sitting with the laptop troubleshooting a problem.

Very kind of you sir, thanks! Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and yours as well.

I've also used this site for many years now as a way to gain knowledge, share tidbits that i've acquired, look for inspiration, and even vent when faced with a challenge.

Thanks to the GJ family for keeping a positive tone which is becoming uncommon in the online communities.:canada:

You have no idea how true this is, I have walked away from several forums this year because of how negative they have become.

Exactly!

Very cool about getting the family in there for some quality time... I'm sure gramps didn't have such a nice place to work back in the day!!

Hahaha very true. It was funny because initially he was confused and had thought i was going to do it on his driveway. Then when he came over and watched the process in the garage he said, "no wonder you didn't want to do it at my place" hahaha.

Dubber -

Went through your whole thread today. You did an amazing job with your space. I was drooling all the more, as I too love VW's. I have a similar size space to work with and would be thrilled if it turns out 1/4 as good as what you put together.

BTW, that GLI looked amazing. I had an mk4 once upon a time (2.slow GL, nothing special), but I think those mk4 Jettas can be SUCH good looking cars when done proper. It actually made me a little sad when I read you were selling it! But of course I understand the desire for an R32. Must feel pretty special to have one in Canada.

P.S. How to you go about washing indoors in the winter? Opti No-rinse? Looking for a better solution as I live in Minnesota with harsh winters and can't bring myself to go through the car washes. But the salt needs to come off!

Cheers ;)

Always love having a fellow VW fan stop by. I do completely agree, there was something special about the mk4 jetta body style, just perfect. Especially with a ton of OEM+ pieces. I do miss it, but its in great hands and i see it a few times every car season. The pain was only offset by the desire for the R32 and i have loved it, not to mention how unique and rare it is, especially up here!

As for the washes, it really depends on the weather outside and how "dirty" the car is. If its somewhat mild i'll do a full hose wash inside, just tarping up the walls. If the car only has a little bit of film i'll use a waterless solution. The third option is doing a wand wash at a near by business and then pull into the garage to do the finishing touches.

First post!

Followed your build threads through the single, and now re-read the entire double thread! All of your work is top notch, and thanks for continuing to update!

Decided it was time to finally join the forum! On a ton of other car forums, and am currently in the middle of a mini garage overhaul, including new equipment and hopefully new flooring!

Thanks for following along! You should certainly start up a thread as well, I really enjoy following the progress of others.

Wanted to add a side not, my wife and i were away over christmas Break and had an airBnB in a little gated community in Kissimmee, Florida. While on our daily walk around the neighbourhood we came across an elderly couple sitting in their garage enjoying the morning sun. Really wishing i had snapped a pic but he had redone his entire space as a lounge with pool table and couches, lights, painted, flooring and art. Looked great and seemed to be suiting their needs perfectly as a fun extension of their home.

Cheers and Happy New Year to the GJ fam.
