i'm sure know know this already but, the key for easier plastidip removal is to spray several coats, even if a light one looks good. If you don't, it will keep breaking and will turn into a headache whenever you decided to remove it!

Hey Nico, Thanks your totally right. I quickly learned that experimenting on an old grill i had. I think i ended up doing like 6 coats. I love the overall look. Just annoyed with the odd pull i got when taking off my blue painters tape. I really wanted to do this to see what the rear and sides would look like with the full euro rubstrip all around. I'm loving the look and i'll eventually order the side and rear OEM euro pieces.

The sides and rear rubstrips turned out quite well and beyond a very close inspection they look pretty good. This gives me a pretty solid representation of what it could look like and i'm happy with the theme.

I haven't snapped a pic of mine but i picked up one of these last week. Its a black magnetic paper towel roll holder.

Mine is black but i got the idea from this identical one, minus the colour and logo :)

I've wanted to get one for awhile as its uber useful in a garage especially since its magnetic and can be moved to several locations. Back when i first had planned to get one, they were available at Griots but the price to my door greatly discouraged me. For my fellow Canadians i got mine at Canadian Tire, made by Mastercraft for $14.99!!!

Where can I get one?

Since i see your not in Canada i unfortunately have no idea. Sorry! The product i picked up is available where i mentioned in that quote for Canadian residents and US residents have access to the Griots product for cheaper then us.

Thanks, yes its a pretty cool product and unique from what i've seen. My plan is to swap them out though and put in OEM Euro rub strips to finish the set but they match up perfectly for now.

Car is looking great and have to say you take real good pictures!

Thanks dude, appreciate the kind words.

Did a little addition in the garage over the weekend in an effort to try and sort some of the junk that is piling up in there. This past week i picked up some new winter tires for my sister's MINI, i'll be putting them on soon as the mornings are now below 4 degrees celcius. I also have my new set of Potenzas sitting in the garage for my winter project. The BBS wheels are going to be taken off and refinished and new rubber put on. Next season they will look like a brand new wheel/tire package which i'm pretty excited about. I'll be grabbing some storage wheels (17" OEM VW Long Beach's) for the GLI from my buddy on Thursday so i'll need all the room i can get. Took off my OEM VW bike racks from the golf so i need to find a home for those that didn't get in my way as well.

I've really loved the look and versatility of the Husky Track Wall system so i decided to go with more of those. I've got a spot up above the VW flag that will work perfectly. Picked up one panel (for now) and two of the ladder racks. Those are amazing adapters as they can hold such a variety of items. My initial plan was to center it above the flag but that thought quickly changed when i was planning out the exact mounting locations because i realized that i would be able to put another up on the left if need be.

Before: (Sorry for the cell pics)

After:

Think it flows well with the rest of the theme of the garage, functional and practical, while still fitting in a general theme.

great space and beautiful GLI always had a spot in my heart for VWs.

is the GLI tucked away for the winter in your garage or does your Racedeck floor see the salt and slush?

 thanks! Nice to see another fan of the dub family.

The GLI had been stored in previous years at a friends place but my goal was to create a fun space (my garage) this past winter and now store it in there. This way i'll be able to tinker and peek at it when i get an urge haha.

It will look like this shortly....

I just received an email from an online detailing store (Auto Obsessed) that i buy from and they were advertising the best practices for winter car storage. Found it interesting that they were suggesting using tire cradles (which i've heard of before) and the one they are offering (shown below) is creeping up to the total price i paid for my entire Race Deck flooring. I had been thinking that having my car parked on this new flooring will be better for my tires then directly on the cement or on pieces of wood as i had done in the past. I think this nicely reinforces one of the benefits of owning this flooring :)

Anyhow, just thought i would share that interesting tidbit.

Garage was in full project mode over the weekend. Swapping wheels on the GLI to the ones i'll use to store it. First time i've had 17" wheels on this car. Definitely notice a difference with a little more profile. We were also selling some furniture so the garage was taking some overflow in the meantime. Had one couple who were blown away when i opened the door in regards to the garage as they walked through to collect a few pieces. Definitely put a smile on my face :D

Snapped a quick cell pic downtown after taking advantage a beautiful fall day drive.

Glad I'm not the only one who loves the simplicity of the design. I've always wanted a set and jumped on some that a buddy had. Definitely far from mint condition but they are something i've wanted to try for a long time.
Anything OEM man, all these Chinese **** imports looks horrid.

Agreed. My plan is to keep the OEM BBS RC wheels that came with this limited edition GLI and then have another set that i will flip to appease certain looks haha.

I may have missed it .. What's your winter ride?

My MK6 Golf. Here's a crappy shot with the winter wheels on. OEM Audi A4 wheels i kept when i sold that car.

This will be her last season, I'll be changing it up next spring. Still unsure what will be its replacement. Toying with either a GTI with the same specs (4 door, auto) or a Tiguan or possibly a 3 series with x drive.

The hatch and size overall have been so perfect; for someone considering this car its an awesome vehicle, EXTREMELY useful. We have done several trips with 4 people, loaded with luggage with ease. Its kinda funny this will be the longest car i've owned at 4 yrs when we get rid of it. I like to keep things fresh as I'm really interested in so many vehicles but at this point in my life I'm not yet able to hold onto too many at once.

22 vehicles (including bikes) in the last 19 years. Can't have them all at once, so one at a time works. 4 years is my record too.

Nice, glad to hear i'm not the only person with this problem. I received my license at 16 and i'm now 32, so for those 16 years I've owned 9 cars.

Just got back from a little trip to a local Canadian Tire and found this beauty. Unfortunately i won't be procuring this as my space is way too small for the addition but maybe another Canadian might be able to take advantage of this. They are selling for $299.

Great find Dubber. Will be checking it out on the way home for sure.
Cheers

Hey since your in Ottawa i saw them on the floor right before the auto motive section of the Canadian Tire on Coventry. Its a mess there though with the 417. It is on their website though so you can check stock at the best location for you. Very jealous!

Those are NICE.. Perhaps one day I'll have one like that in my garage? So any changes to your garage Dubber? Or are you pretty much set at this point?

Not too much actually, although its about to go into winter storage mode. This weekend weather is supposed to be sunny and 10 degrees (celcius) so i'm going to take advantage and do the last thorough cleaning of the GLI and then park it in the garage with its blankie haha....

I've had three extra sets of wheels in there lately so i've had to reorganize a few areas to accommodate as i decide what i'll be keeping and using.

My jack will be "upgraded" actually. I'm selling my two year old Torin Black Jack tonight as a matter of fact. Nothing wrong with it but with the GLI being so low i'm going to pick up an ultra low jack. Having to drive the car up onto stands is kinda annoying.

I may be picking up a new set of wheels for it over the winter, so i will want to test fit for offset and such so a low jack will be great to be able to easily handle this task.

My low-pro JEGS jack is worth a look if you're still weighing your options.

Thanks guys, I saw that JEGS one in your thread Rick, it's one i am considering for sure.

I'm leaning towards this one though, it definitely has some substance to it.

I took a look at it today and i think the design is perfect for what i need. I also have a few gift cards that i have been saving to cash in at Canadian Tire. My old jack was just picked up for near what i bought it for two years ago so i'm pretty stoked with that result.

I know a lot of people don't like Canadian Tire but i do enjoy the ability of going into their stores and touching whatever given product that i'm considering. They also have an easy return policy which helps with my experimenting.
