Took my new Gardena hose and reel for a test drive while washing a car today and i have to say i couldn't be happier. I really recommend this thing. It has a more narrow hose that has no issues with moving it around and maneuvering. I always had an issue with my old hose trying to move it around the car which lead to countless cursing sessions. Cleans up so easily and it coils up so easily.

I like the looks of that hose from the previous pictures you posted.
What's the total length on it?
Also, does it reel back in alright when you're finished?
Surprisingly enough, its a 50' hose. It rolls back really well, the handle that you can see in one of the pics snaps in when you start to turn it, and then you easily un-click once it has been completely wound in. One of the features i love about this set-up is that it allows me to prevent an issue i used to have when i would wash one car and keep my other car in the garage my previous hoses would always end up being a hassle along the side of the car and some times rub up against. I've had quality hoses that wouldn't always lie flat once they were unrolled and this would leave a semi coiled nature to the hose and make then an issue for a possible rub against the car. This hose reel comes with Gardena's patented snap lock system and i can have the reel unlocked from the hose bib within a second and wind it up outside on the driveway. Since the hose is more thin it makes it much more malleable while still retaining strength to prevent kinds. Sorry for the very long-winded and hopefully not too confusing round about way saying that i like the function and practicality of this hose and bib.
I've been toying with the idea of getting a rolling stool but i also had to be sure as I'm already tight on space. I made an attempt to create my own version with some pieces i had already. An old stool I've had since i was a kid + a little spray paint + some extra decals + a few leftover casters = $0 free new roller stool

Surprising well actually. It could obviously could always be better but based on the weight of it and the caster size it moves well. And way better then before haha. Just need to do a little **** swing to move over. I was torn as i really wanted one (roller stool) but i couldn't justify keeping this one (simple stool) in terms of storage, I think that I've found a happy medium. And i find myself always hording decals and being super reluctant to commit them to anything as i also like the simple clean look.
On that note, i found a home for my 'Sunday Driver' decal but i forgot to snap a pic, i'll try and do that tonight.

I really love these single car builds because it seems to be the most realistic in my eyes... all we have in my area are houses with attached singles. We're looking at a new home right now with a 1.5 attached single and this thread has given me a ton of inspiration. You've done one hell of a job with the small space that you have so congrats to you!
Nice GLI by the way. I used to own a rave green MK4 GTI myself and I loved it to death, but it had some terrible engine problems that I couldn't afford to fix

A single is a definite challenge, thanks for the kind words man. Love your Avatar btw, I would love to have those 3SDM's on my Golf.
That was a very unique colour for your GTI, did you have the 1.8T or the VR6? Its always a sad day when you have to cut your loses and move on. I had to do that on my old B5 A4.

Read your entire thread and looked at all the photos. I have a small 1 car, not even big enough for a medium size car. Keeping your thread open on my computer as a reminder of how to flyspeck and worry about all the details as I begin to transform my space from a jammed up and full storage bin, into a useful and pleasant space for working from for automotive, motorcycle, bicycle and metalworking.
Your space is usable, spare, clean, visually pleasing and well worked out. Hope to do some of the same.

Always awesome to hear that I've been able to give some ideas to people on here as I've been poaching ideas as well since i found this forum A single is definitely a challenge to make it nice and still functional to house a vehicle especially. With mine i really had to take the time and experiment with which item(s) needed to be in what specific spot based on the dimensions of my current tiny space. I think at this point i can say that I've maximized my capacity with the current layout. The fun thing is every space is unique so its always a challenge to find the right piece for the right spot haha.
You'll know when its right when you walk in there and it makes YOU smile.
Good luck with your project and you should definitely document your progress. I really enjoyed the process of mine.

Quick question on the RaceDeck... if you have to roll around a toolbox or stool or something else with small wheels, do you find that the wheels get stuck in the cutouts or holes of the RaceDeck, or are the holes so small that it doesn't really matter? Hope this makes sense.

Nice! Mine was a 2.8 V6 Quattro, fun for the ONE winter i had it at least hahaha.
As for the RaceDeck i understand what your asking, not to worry. Tiny wheels might be more challenging but the "gaps" on the tiles aren't that wide. I haven't had an issue moving anything as of yet.
With my stool as an example, it rolls easily on a solid surface but with the racedeck it still rolls but just need to put a little more effort, a little **** swing in this case works lol.

Did you have to put anything under the floor jack when using it on the RaceDeck or did you change the tires outside of the garage?

Well i really wish i had the space for this to be a concern for me. Unfortunately unless i'm doing just one wheel or an emergency situation i just do the wheels on the driveway. I do have some 1 foot square pieces of thin plywood that i'm keeping to put under my floor jack as it would surely make an imprint. It makes a divot in the asphalt outside so i can assume it may do something similar.
If only i had the room, woe is me

I guess I never took into account how difficult it is to do a wheel swap in a single garage. Maybe you need one of those fancy scissor lifts like Nico in MTL recently installed!

Thanks, its even hard to tell in that crappy pic but they do match well. And i already had the red and black in my inventory so it was even better.
Yea its a challenge, i've done it once before. Basically you would need to move the car mid way through the project so you have a side almost pushed up against one wall. I can't do my GLI in there though as its kind of an elaborate process using wood ramps etc just to be able to get my jack under lol..

Ha ha, now I don't feel like such a weirdo. I like decals too but then don't put them on much because I like things to look "clean".
Stool came out good and smart of you NOT to buy a new one when you already had that one and a small garage.

You two aren't alone, I'm the exact same. I found a good decal outlet though.....I got a 20+- gallon steel drum (previously an oil drum) to use for my garage trash can, every cool decal I come across gets slapped on the can. Good decal release and keeps everything else clean.

I've FINALLY found two 20 gallon(?) metal cans that oil use to come in. I'd been looking for them a long time. One is a Pennzoil yellow & black can in good original condition. The other I fixed a couple minor dents in and I'm in the process of painting in Gilmour red and yellow colors. So needless to say, I can't let myself put decals on those. I WILL find a place though...eventually.

were do you put your off season wheels ? i must have missed it. store bought or diy tire rack?
