Ducati sign to replicate

This sign is down at the local Duke shop and i love it.
So id like to build a copy and looking for input.
looks like LED`S on the back of the letters.
How would you make the letters ?
What led`s would you use?

Looks like you could cut those out of MDF pretty-easily.
