I have the Snap-ons that I like. Can't speak for the others, although I have other Knipex and Channellock pliers that are excellent as well.

I have the Snapons. They rusted almost instantly. They seem to be pretty good quality. I wiped them with oil and they haven't rusted since.

I have the snap on and they have worked very well. I have had them for maybe 6 years and haven't had any rust problems. They are one of my go to pliers.

I own three brands of long handled duckbills like that, and these are some of my favorite pliers.

Knipex. Mine are an older version that is plated (I think that it is a nickel, similar to the plating on the Pliers Wrench). These have the finest tips of all the ones I own, but they also feel a little dainty for brute work, so I use these the least.

Channellock. I have an OLD pair that don't have the blue rubber grips. They're ok, I guess.

Craftsman. These are my all around favorite. They're the style with the rough black grips, and don't seem to be sold individually any more (but they are in some sets). Other than the dip on the grips, they're a dead ringer for those Protos listed above, and I LOVE these. The needle nose version of these are my go-to pliers.

Which Protos? The ones I listed or those Pro-America 4.cycle posted?

bmwpowere36m3 : to be clear: Proamerica uses kind of a "rough finish" grippy plastic on their handles.
you can get a better idea of what it looks like from the photos I posted HERE:
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5529264#post5529264

if you want the smooth-finish shiny grips you would want one of the others.

I haven't gotten a pair of the Proamerica duck-bills yet - I'm using a 40-year-old Indestro pair.

Any of those would work great... I have a pair of the black handled craftsman... they're nice too.

The Blackhawk by Proto that you listed. Craftsman 9-45087

The Craftsman 9-45085 are their needle nose companion, and IMSOHO, are the best pliers ever made:

I will say this. I own a number of SnapOn pliers. I just happen to own none of their duckbills.
ALL of the SnapOn pliers I own are top notch. Their 96CF needle nose, for when you want a plier with a long jaw, is better than anything I have seen from any competitor.

I have knipex and snap on. Knipex aren't even close to the Snap On. I liked my old craftsman black industrial better than Knipex.

Snap-on would be my first choice followed by the Channellocks. The one pair I can tell you not to buy is the Armstrong version; they are uncomfortable and will hurt your hands when you squeeze them. I don't know if it's the handle shape; the lack of padding; or both.

I have the Snap-On's oiled the with WD-40 the day I got them and never saw any rust on them. Good sturdy pliers, the jaws get a great bite.

okay... just for the hell of it I just ordered a pair of the Proamerica 5022 pliers from BowersTool on Ebay.... I'm really curious now because my guess is that either Proamerica or Wilde is OE for those Blackhawks just above too... will post a photo when they arrive - I can get better detail than that shot of them on Ebay.

I have a different set of the Knipex ones you posted and I like them a lot. I also have the Snap On ones you posted. I regularly grab the Snap On ones if I need to clamp on something really hard. I use my Knipex ones when finesse is needed

I'd choose the Blackhawks because they are similar to my old Diamonds which are the best duckbills i have seen. I really like the slender tips. I also have the CMans which are great too.
