ductless a/c

Did a search and didn't come up with anything. Opinions on DIY for the garage. I'm pretty mechanically inclined. I've looked a some on Amazon and looks like they're precharged with R410. My garage is more of a workshop/woodshop than a place to just hang out and chill. Should I be concerned about sawdust? Any things I should be aware of before attempting? I'm guessing I need about 12kBTU for 500 sf.

Where did you get the adapter? Did you have an HVAC tech come out to vac the lines?

I've heard they're very efficient. Did you notice much of an increase in your electric bill?

I put a 24K unit (2 Ton) in my shop in San Diego. It is amazing. It is Gree that I bought from AC Wholesalers and had installed by my local guy. He charged me $400 for the total install and I must say, it was not hard to do.

The unit is wonderful. It cools the shop right sown and it is so efficient that I do not notice a spike in consumption. Glad I did it and it will provide heat if I ever need it.

don't buy an LG mini-split,they are pure junk.
I have 4,3 of which are blown up and they will not warranty,even though theres 2 years left..

I get free shipping with amazon prime. highseer still comes in cheaper even with adding in their shipping to NJ. But the fedex shipping quote is interestingly $141.

Got the adapter at local HVAC supply place. They sell them at the highseer website. Noticed a slight spike in the electric bill this month cause of the 100+ temps in Texas, but nothing out of the norm. It's an A/C & Heat pump, so it will work well in the winter too. Had a friend who knows a former ac guy come out at do it for me. After killing the compressor by (myself) trying to start it without a vacuum, he replaced the compressor and put r410 in for $150, which was LOWER than any quote I got locally. Most places don't want to touch stuff they don't install. I have somewhat basic skills, and had it installed and hooked up to my breaker in about 6-8 hrs, stopping for food and such. Biggest PITA was putting the hole in my wall. Running the lines and electrical was pretty self explanatory. Used some flexible conduit to run the power lines to my breaker box, with a 20amp breaker. This thing kicks ****, and is cheaper than the Mits and LG units. So far, I love it.

Pretty sure I'll be going with this one. Has good reviews and the price is right too. I'll let yall know how it goes.

Are you located in TX? Also, is your shop insulated, attached to the house, windows/doors facing west?

What I am getting at is it sounds like a 1 ton unit may be too small for 500 sq ft. A lot of the online calculators assume insulated walls and having the unit maintaining a temperature 24/7.

Here is the one I got. They are out of stock now. My garage is about the same size as yours and I got the 18,000 BTU. My garage is only half insulated so it was better for me to go up a size. Even with the garage door open I can still feel cooled off!

There is Jonathan, my Pioneer buddy! His install was great to read about and to help with. I got the 115v unit, which I didn't need an external cutoff box for. I am in Texas, but this unit is in my house, not my garage. Wanting one for my garage eventually, but got to pay off the construction cost first.

Yes, I'm in TX. Houston area. Shop/garage is detached, insulated walls (soon to be insulated attic area), Doors face east.
