Just got caught up...Just awesome is all I can say [emoji106] [emoji106]

Awesome would be a full tour. Lol.

Duker, it just dawned on me that after your welding bench build, I wouldn’t have guessed you were a big woodworker. Look forward to seeing the wood version of things you design and build.

Shorty, I will see if I can get the video camera working and do a little tour of the Barndominium! I need to post something on my little used YouTube channel so that would work!

As for woodworking.... it’s funny, I am probably more known on the GJ for my welding table but in my little real world I have been making custom furniture for over 35 years.

I don’t even get the eye roll no more. It goes automatically to shaking her head and saying “ how much and where you putting it?” LOL.

I DVR car fix so have to check out what they installed last week.

Cocktails on me if you can figure it out. But I'll give you a hint, it was part of the Hemi build.

Right!! And man I no longer think I'll be able to go. In the last month two things have popped up that are twisting my arm not to go. One being a long term construction project and the other being grand bubby #2 will be here in march. right now I'm not sure what's going to happen. :headscrat

You must laugh a bit when the new black kitchen cabinets are done by pros and they are not up to your standards of quality control. Maybe me time your wife will wait for the stars to align in your schedule. I know my wife would not wait lol!!

Happy new year!!! Wow that wooden roof is spectacular!!! So many cool updates I cannot comment on all of them!!! Keep up the amazing job!!

Sean, thank you for the New Years greetings! I have been knocking out a few house side projects for my better half and for my in-laws. I will post some pics of those hopefully this coming weekend.

Funny you should mention the kitchen cabinets.... the cabinets are actually a dark gray (...my bad photographic skills make them look black) and I was not happy with them even though my wife said she liked them. Since I was stuck with them I had the installer come back out and redo all of the drawer fronts as they were not to my satisfaction of level and square and the spacing was off. They fixed a couple doors that had some dings and redid some of the trim. I found some other issues but my wife mentioned I wasn’t going to get my level of work so I should let it go.

Well......In looking over their work I noticed that the slides on the drawers were not soft closing which I thought my wife had spec’ed. I couldn’t imagine I had let that one slip through and sure enough I went back to contract and they were in there. When I mentioned that little item to to my boss and all of a sudden the cabinets needed to be fixed! Funny how priorities change!

In the end the cabinets are better and I can live with them but I told my wife once the shop is up and running don’t be surprised if all of a sudden one day slowly but surely one by one they get replaced!

Thanks for checking in!

Time for a little Barn update....

I feel like I have a thousand projects going and yet not one completed on the Barn recently.

My wife has also been keeping my busy with the "Decorating" which means I am the lackey that gets to figure out how to hang a TV that will drop from the fire place and clear the (yet to be done) mantel as well as hang a giant windmill on the rock fireplace. This is the view from the loft.

I was also able to get the kids TV's upstairs hooked up to the internet and Direct TV. I still have to clean up the wiring.

View media item 81356
This weekend I got back to working on the loft railing again. Here is a shot of the long run of the loft railing....

View media item 81353
There is no tension on the cables yet as I still have to mill and cut the hand rails for the top. For those who may not have seen the previous posts there is a Cherry sleeve that fits over a 3" x 3" x 3/16" thick steel tube that has been bolted to the floor. The Cherry sleeves are made with lock miter bit.

Here is the railing next to the spiral stairs landing.

View media item 81352
Threading the stainless cable through each post is "fun" you know...just like a colonoscopy is "fun." To drill the holes I am using this jig I made on my mill to drill and tap the threaded drill guides.

View media item 81354
I am using the following hardware which consists of a hex head screw and threaded crimp rod for adjusting the cable and a drop end terminating crimp connection.

With all of the rain we have been having I was finally able to burn down the last of the old burn pile so now I can grade the dirt in front of my in-laws storage container.

View media item 81359
Last but not least.... Do you notice some stakes in the ground next to the barn?

View media item 81350
The new 40' x 60' x 14' metal shop starts Monday! These renderings will give you an idea of what it will look like as I have not uploaded my drawings yet. The metal shop will house my all my welding and machining equipment as well as a lift.

Did you pour around permacolumn's? And what made you decided to go that route rather than a stem wall and stick built? Would your foundation work in a cold climate?

Thanks

The barn was built by Morton and I went with them because they had a good reputation and they were one of the few builders I could get to come to my site to build the building. Traditional stick builders wanted about twice for the same shell. The foundation is the way Morton does their buildings and they build in many cold climates. I have been very happy with the building.

Awesome progress! Can't wait to see the metal shop. Looking good man!

Thanks Jeff, I,am looking forward to getting that shop built as it will allow me to store some of my equipment as I work on my wood-shop.

Thanks Cam, I will take some more interior shots. I have taken some video but just haven’t had time to piece it together yet.

Thanks Mike, I am hoping to get to where you are where I am doing projects in the shop not “on the shop!”

I was going to say “Hey where’s the pics of the wood shop?” But you answered that with metal shop to store equipment while working on wood shop. Glad your plans are moving forward and look forward to any and all pics.
