I wanted to say thanks to everyone who has stopped by and checked the thread and offered support regarding my son and wife. It is truly appreciated and hopefully will have a happy outcome in a few weeks. All of the tests have been completed and ”all systems are go” as soon as the two surgical teams can work out a date but it could be as soon as the middle of September.

I have not had a lot of shop time as my wife and I decided to put our house up for sale as the first stage of our “downsizing” with the goal of moving out eventually to the Barn so I have been busy with home repairs. I did however, get a chance to try out my lift in the metal shop as my son wanted to check out some items on his new car.

c1992207e3056fdd2c322f199485f41c.jpg

So the maiden voyage of the lift was with his Mustang. It was a big milestone for me as my son has never really expressed an interest in cars or anything mechanical for that matter so I jumped at the chance to help him out as I hope we can spend some more shop time together.

Keep us posted on the dates so we can have our fingers crossed and good prayers ready.
With a ‘stang like that, I’d get into cars. Glad maiden lift was successful and here’s to many father-son hours wrenching.
Side note, I’m digging the paint roller paint job on that dividing wall. How’d you get the paint to reflex back like that? [emoji848]🤣

That is great news Duker.

Always good to share time with the kids in the garage.

From the picture of the car on the lift, you had to drive it onto the wood to get enough clearance for the arms to swing in under it? At least for the front of it?

Duker, it's been forever since I've popped in to see your thread...I don't know why, it just has. :headscrat Anyway, I wish nothing but the best for you and your family, hoping that the upcoming surgeries go without a hitch & it will be smooth sailing from that day forward!

Your Son's new "Stang sure is purty sitting on that lift.

John, you nailed it... the car was about 3/8” to low in the front to swing arms of the lift under it. I think I will get my son to weld up some little ramps, it will be an excuse for more shop time!

CF, thank you for stopping in and for the comments! I have to say the new mustang is growing on me as well, it has started to make me ponder starting to look for a restomod Eleanor project or maybe a 68-69 convert to make into a tribute Shelby...

I hope everyone is having a good Labor Day weekend. It’s about 90 degrees here today but sitting on the porch there is a light breeze so compared to the weather we have had it’s a veritable “cool front” so enjoying a break from some projects.

It is the last weekend my wife could tackle some of her projects since next weekend is our 33rd anniversary and we will be gone and then the surgery so she had a list lined up for me this weekend. The first was to complete the golf cart I was converting for my mother-in-law. She had a tough time shifting her Polaris so we needed something easy for her to run around the property, get mail etc. so the easiest thing to drive I could think of was an electric golf cart. I found two one electric and one gas at an auction. The gas one I will probably fix up and sell.

This is my MIL’s cart

6500bb56c41ee630a4c3ba218eb54b43.jpg

I lowered it a couple of inches more to make it easy to get in and out of...

9ea4a7c1d6c42d8df675f34156ca1c6e.jpg

I added a new roof, redid the front seats, added the rear seats and the headlights and tail lights.

677aaf2cce910d02ddddb9ab4189f864.jpg

There were many other small projects but none that were photo worthy.

About the only thing shop related was I put up a couple sheets of plywood in the metal shop so that I could test out some fasteners I bought to see if they were going to work.

So far so good as they are self drilling and pulled the plywood tight sinking level with the surface of the plywood.

340c15934a093050bdc9e552b3f3cd87.jpg

I added a 2” x 6” on the back of each sheet to give some additional depth to drive some screws when I get ready to install the upper cabinets.

8bf161ba85aff72c58829d878c5c6dac.jpg

That’s about as far as I can go as I need to drill some holes in the upper rail and install some conduit clamps before I install the rest of the sheets on the wall in front of the lift.

LOL..... Thanks Cam, I just hope she doesn’t bottom out the cart too often as she has a “heavy” foot when it comes to speed! I pimped out her Polaris 400 with custom paint, rims & tires etc but she just didn’t have the strength or reach to shift the thing. She does miss its speed...

yep that's a sweet looking ride duker

cool magical level too

all the best for the next few weeks

GB

Thanks GB, the cart turned out better than I thought it would. I also appreciate the thoughts!

I poured a little pad for my new American Rotary 40HP phase converter.

Please excuse my ignorance, what is a "40HP phase converter"?

Hope all is going well for your family.

Nice cart for the MIL as well.

John, I have some equipment that have 7 and 10HP 3 phase motors which make the use of a VFD (variable frequency drive) too costly considering the size I would have to buy after derating them. The rotary phase converter allows me to run those 3 phase machines on single phase power up to 40HP which means I can have my planer and jointer running along with a compressor and dust collection and have power and capacity to spare.

Thanks John, once we get past the surgery I am hoping to get much more shop time with my son. He said he would like to build a forge and try some knife making and blacksmithing as well which would be new for both of us which is cool.

Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate the comments!

Duker,

I might of overlook the overall height of your build (side walls)? Also, what manufacturer accordion door did you go with? Was there anything special you had to do to install it?

All the best today. We are pulling for Team Duker!!

I second that.

Waiting patiently for good news here.

Waiting and praying Duke.

Guys I appreciate the thoughts and prayers. It has been a long day. We arrived at the hospital at 5:00AM which let me have roughly about 3 hours of sleep for me as I had a project for work I had to finish. The surgery for both my wife ended up getting pushed back as an emergency liver transplant took precedence and all the surgeries were pushed back about 3 hours. Not to make a long story longer but everyone is doing fine so far. I have been running back and forth between hospital rooms to check on my wife and son feeding them ice chips etc since they can’t have anything solid yet.

They are both sleeping for the moment so wanted to give an update and to again say thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.

The doctor said the kidney looked great and blood flow is good.

I am going to grab some food from the cafeteria and then call it a day on the couch!

Hi Duker , I just finished reading the whole thread. Love the shops.

Regarding the family health situation, don’t be afraid to reach out to other family and friends for some relief. Your wife and son I’m sure would take some comfort in knowing that you’re taking care of yourself too (physically, mentally and otherwise). No need to run yourself ragged.

The sidewalls of the Barn are 18ft tall and the door was from La Cantina. The place where we bought the door installed it as that was the only way they would honor the warranty which after seeing what they did and how much it weighed I am glad they did. I came in behind and fixed or cleaned up any issues I found.

Thank you for the update. Please take care of yourself because the stress you are under can put you in an adjoining room. From my experience those ice chips are a real blessing.
