I have the same exact engine hoist. Where did you get the air over hydraulic cylinder, please?

Thanks in advance!

I got it at Harbor Freight. It is this one...

I used one of those 25% coupons that I found on http://www.hfqpdb.com/ I think is was Labor Day weekend. I was a little behind in getting it installed. [emoji38]

Hey Pa lookie here, their barn floor is wood. House looks great. The windmill fan is perfect.
How are the kids going to freeze, get creepy crawlers and experience a Sasquatch visit camping indoors? lol

What is the green thing? Is the base metal and concrete?
Have a joyous thanksgiving.

Thanks Shorty, there are just a couple more small projects to call the inside done....although over time I will be building in beds for upstairs that will combine a queen mattress below with bunk beads overhead.

As for camping......That’s what I said to my wife..... no bugs, no weird noises.... that’s not camping!

The green thing was/is a base to a Wilton vise I got at an auction. The base is a solid chunk of metal..... I had to use the tractor to move it from the trailer to the shop!

I hope you have a great Thanksgiving as well!

Looking great Duke. Btw some of the best money I ever spent was converting my engine hoist over the air, what a godsend.

Here's to a great turkey day and weekend with the family my friend, I hope everyone has a wonderful time

I was fortunate to meet another GJ’er this past week, Eli aka Sharkytm who was in town for some business.

Now that in itself was cool enough but Eli was kind enough to reach out to me a few weeks before to ask if I wanted three Rousseau drawers that he had in his storage. He had read about my other cabinets in the thread and checked to see if I would want them. Heck yeah I wanted them so I sent him my address and a few weeks later they showed up at my door. Now, let me reiterate the caliber and quality of people we have on the board.... I didn’t send Eli any money... he told me what he thought the shipping cost would be and then he sent them before he sent me instructions on how to pay him.

When he came into town I offered to take him to dinner so we grabbed some BBQ as he said it’s tough to find good que back east. Eli, is super nice and obviously a stand up guy. I am glad I was able to meet him and say thanks in person.

I was finally able to unpack them this weekend (which by the way Eli, the packing job was awesome.) Here are the drawers...

I was also able to unload a future project... I participated in a timed auction a few weeks back and saw that nobody was bidding on this item. It is a 36” D-8 faceplate from a lathe. I could see Adam Booth using something like this in his shop. I don’t intend to use it on a lathe but thought it would make a great rotating fab table.

I can’t even imagine this thing spinning on a lathe...

Thanks John, I think the faceplate could end up being be a nice fab table. I need to do a little research as to how I want to put this thing together.

That is a cool find. Super jealous of the table you are going to build using it. Any idea what it weighs?

Holy ****. Now that's a faceplate. Looking forward to seeing your project with it Duke. That will make an awesome fixturing table for welding, although it may not be big enough.:bounce:

There are some good people on this forum for sure. That drawer looks brand new.
Interesting score on the tiny faceplate and great repurpose idea. Speaking of fixture, I have a bolt down base and post that might work as a pedestal base. Plate is probably 1/2”.

That was very cool of sharkytm, it's certainly not everyday a complete stranger is willing to let you get ahold of his drawers :headscrat :D

And that faceplate will make one hell of a Fab table. Too bad you're not closer bud. I have a 6" rigid post with floor flanges I used to use for my old vise, that would have been perfect for that. I'd maybe suggest something like I built for my belt and bench grinder stand. This one is 6" square tubing with a piece of 5"ID (5-5/8"OD) black pipe welded to the bottom of the top. Then a nut welded to the stand so it's an easy deal to rotate and lock the whole thing down.

I have been looking forward to spending a few days up at the barn. Work has been crazy so it will be nice to be able to relax. However, it’s a good news bad news type of week as my wife’s side of family has come in for Thanksgiving and I have spent this afternoon setting up some additional albeit unusual sleeping accommodations ....

6927bade16d2a8004b45989dbd954245.jpg

Yes.... that is a pop up
Camper sitting in my woodworking shop to accommodate the little kids.

I told my wife that I was going to tell scary chainsaw massacre stories then fire off the table saw at midnight... But she nixed that idea....

So before the family hoard comes tomorrow I am sitting enjoying a little fire in the pit and a little
Scotch in the glass.... I could get used to this...

Finished building and mounting the hand rail for the loft railing.... it was a long overdue project. For some reason my wife thought it would be a good idea to have a railing with a bunch of people staying up in the loft.... go figure.... ! All that is left is to sand flush the walnut plugs I used to fill the bolt holes.

I was also able to get done a little project of mine which is making my life much easier in moving equipment around.... an air/hydraulic jack for my engine lift. It is soooo much faster getting the boom to the right height and yet you still have the ability to use the manual lift as well.

d1ec07b20cb302455d2669c6d4e52784.jpg

It’s a small thing but since it’s just me now to move things since my son isn’t cleared to nor does he have the strength to lift machines it is making the job much easier.

Duker, railings look great, I like that style.

We've "camped" in the building on our KY property, setting up a tent inside. Works pretty good.

I was thinking the same thing about the tablesaw at midnight.

Take care
Craig

Lol.... there was an even bigger one up for bid and I almost went for it...however a little sanity took hold and the reality of me trying to bend my gut over a bigger table kicked in!

Duker, after a year filled with biopsies, surgeries, transplants and setbacks I'm guessing this is a special Christmas for at least three people. One of the items on my Christmas list is a great day for you and yours, followed by an even greater New Year!

Also on my list is a picture of your metal shop -- just a picture (I'm not greedy).

Since bob summed it up perfectly I'm going to half to double down on his words. I hope you guys are having a very Merry Christmas and that you're back to feeling good by now.

Duke's probably gonna be pissed I said this but he recently had his own minor health issue. Nothing intense but if he was a horse, they'd have put him down. :spit:

Bob, thank you for the note. I love Christmas time and wish the season was year round but you are right in that this year was special as our family faced some challenges but we survived and are all still around to enjoy the season and each other.

I will work on that pic of the metal shop.... I need to straighten up just a bit before I snap that photo....!

Geez Cam, you trying to give my wife some ideas? I thought we were friends! I hope you fall off that climbing wall... I know you are thinking of trying it!

I will third Bob and LXCam's sentiment.

Merry Christmas and Happy Healthy New Year.

Thanks John, I hope you have had a great Christmas and an even better New Year!

May the barn be fill with joyous laughter. Merry Christmas.

Thanks Shorty, the barn is usually filled with laughter but it’s usually my wife laughing at me...![emoji51]

As I look back to 2018 it was a year filled with some accomplishments and it seemed more than usual disappointments but that may be because I am getting older and more cynical or was that senile..... anyway... the last week of the year went out with more of a thud than a bang. One one hand It was tough seeing my Dad as he has declined in health but I am thankful I still have him around to spend some time together. My youngest daughter had an accident in her car (not her fault.) She is fine, the car not so much, however here again the silver lining is that we never thought she would be capable of ever driving due to her disabilities but she handled the accident better than we could have asked for.... and last but not least I threw my back out... no silver lining.... two out of three ain’t bad...!

I for one am glad to move into 2019!

I am looking forward to this year as I will get to finish up the wood shop with insulation and pine siding and move my tools in and the metal shop will get electricity and I can quit using extension cords for power!

I did get to start and almost finish a few things which I will post in my projects thread but I did forget to mention a person who also sent me some items awhile back and that was JohnKal. I was reminded of that when I went to load up the grinder and there was the box of discs he sent me so, John... Thank you and my apologies for the long delay in my acknowledgement!

I hope everyone has a great New Year.... and as the Irish say... may your best day of last year be your worst day this year!

You've certainly had a hell of a year Duke. Here's to a brand new year that's filled with promise and good health for the entire family my friend. You are certainly most deserving of it after all you and yours have gone thru.

“Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.” John Wooden

You have had a tough one for sure. Keep moving forward and things will turn for the better. Hope the back heals soon.

Greg

Greg, thank you for the comments! As for the back, it’s is slowly feeling better. I am going to try an Airrosti doc this next which a good friend of mine suggested. Hopefully that fixes me enough to get back to full capacity as I have way too many projects to get done!

Definitely a trying year. Onwards and upwards in 2019

Thanks you Shorty... that it was... but we survived! [emoji3]

Duker: I see you have 2 garage gallery threads that I need to read thru cause i've always liked your posts and your quality stuff like your cool welding table.

so if you'd like to take another old man's word for it just spend $400 or less for a TEETER UP inversion table (I should have bought stock in this company) and use it and hang 5 minutes every day.

I used to go to the Chiropractor every week or every other week for almost a year and he did the same damn adjustments every time. so i bought a used inversion table (invertalign which was high end and bought by Teeter up) and started hanging on it 5 minutes a day. after a month or so my chiropractor invited me to lunch which I gladly accepted cause he was buying and he offered me a FREE ADJUSTMENT which i passed on. he wondered what i was doing so I mentioned i was hanging on an inversion table and he said not to hang more than 5 minutes per day.

I took him to lunch the following year and passed on another FREE ADJUSTMENT and that was about 10 years ago. I don't think i've taken an Advil for back pain in 10 years and I used to buy the 100 gel Advils every 2 to 4 weeks.

it might be worth a try and if you get a used one or new one all inversion tables are not built the same so PM me if you have questions or get Teeter Ups (invertalign's model) that has cups for your feet and a nice ratchet type holder.

hanging will get some people dizzy that will eventually go away so take your time building up to the 5 minutes, but some people opt for pills or surgery and sell their new inversion tables so you might find a nice almost new used one for $100-200.

good luck and hope your 2019 is a good one.

Drives, thank you for stopping in and checking out the threads. I will check out the inversion tables. I was hesitant as you said as I get dizzy when hanging upside down. I bungee jumped 20+ years ago and the hanging there upside down waiting to be untied was worse than the jump!

I am going to try the Airrosti as it is very similar to Rolfing which I tried and worked well when I was younger on helping with alignment which I think is my big issue. Thanks again for the comments.

Duker: hanging in the air upside down where you have a fear factor added I'm sure is something i wouldn't like either. i actually play Suduko now for 5 minutes while i'm hanging.

I had 2 builder's I worked with that were scheduled for back surgery that tried my inversion table and i actually sent my table home with them and loaded it in their trucks and they both cancelled their surgeries and still use their inversion tables.

my 86 year old mom who is a retired RN used my inversion table for 6 days for 5 minutes per day after a MRI couldn't find any issues cause she was taking vicadin for pain it was so bad. after 6 days she was off the pills and after a month she hasn't had back issues again and that was 5 years ago.

best of luck with any direction you go and just wanted to give you a little more information cause the dizzyness should go away.

I do have to chime in on how much my inversion table has helped me. I was suffering from some pretty horrible left hip pain. It’s bothered me since my 20’s (in my 50’s now) but had gotten bad enough I was almost debilitated. I’m on my feet A LOT at work, so I was really suffering. My wife, on a hunch, bought me one for Christmas and after about 4 days I was having some major relief. And now I’m a new man! Try one!

Well I guess I am going to have to try one as you guys seem to be very happy with the results. I was just hoping to get by with more Scotch and heating pads. The idea of hanging upside down like a bat wasn’t on my idea list.... I wonder if I can still drink the Scotch while hanging upside down with a straw..... hmmmm.

Thanks for the comments guys I appreciate your thoughts.

Duker: I'd suggest drinking the SCOTCH after you hang. best of luck and hope you like it as much as my friends, clients and I do.

i've had plenty of pain the last 10 years in my back and body and while the pain doesn't go away after a 5 minute hang it will eventually so i don't panic and now i just hang even on days when i don't have any pain.

the long handles on my invertalign is one way to know the version you probably should buy along with the ratchet style foot clamping system. also the new style cups to hold your ankles in are good to have.

cheers (ice tea mostly for this old guy, but i do partake in a few other beverages)

Drives, I appreciate iced tea myself! I also appreciate the advice on the back. I watched some videos this weekend about inversion so I am doing my due diligence. I am at the point I would try voodoo dolls if I thought it would fix this issue.
