Duker: have you had a chance to hang yet even if only on a friend's inversion table? even if you can only hang for a minute or two before you get a little light headed I bet you'll LOVE IT.

good luck and once you get your back in good shape again the SCOTCH will taste even better.

I was reminded of that when I went to load up the grinder and there was the box of discs he sent me so, John... Thank you and my apologies for the long delay in my acknowledgement!

I was finally catching up on your thread. No apologies necessary or expected Duke. You had a lot on you plate last year. Your advice regarding the Waterlox application was priceless. My son's counter top came out exceptional....thank YOU!

Hello, any students from Mrs. CB’s school of house chores?
Any progress on the wood shop?
Now that barndominium has been lived in for awhile, is there anything different you’d do? Site layout, living to shop layout, floor plan, finishes, etc.?

Shorty, I was hoping to work on the wood shop today through this weekend but fate threw me a curve today..... at the moment I am sitting in the hospital as we got a call this morning that a kidney has become available for my son and is being flown in from Maine (hopefully it’s not Strouty!) we are now on wait mode until it gets here.

Now as for the Barn, it has been great. I think the only change I would make after being in it for awhile is that I would take out the French doors leaving some room for more seating around the fire place.

I would have loved to have more wood on the inside as it would be cozier to me but the boss likes the openness and bright light it has so we “compromised” and she got what she wanted!

The only other change would be to make a thicker wall between the shop and living space... their is still more noise coming through than I like when running as saw.

The latest addition is a garage/carport that has parking for two cars and a storage room with garage door for our mule and golf carts. it will match the metal of the barn when completed.

Thanks guys I appreciate the comments. We got bumped until tomorrow morning for surgery as there was one liver transplant ahead of us already and as luck would have it the liver from the same donor is here at the same hospital as my son. Livers take precedent as they can only be out of the body 12 hours where a kidney can be 24-48 hours so we have been pushed until 6:00AM tomorrow.

The day has been a battery of tests and answering the same questions over and over again. My son feels bad we wasted a day of QST but I told him this will give us many more days of quality time!

Again, thank you for the comments and prayers.

I was thinking of your son when you posted on another thread but I didn't want to ask how he was doing. So glad to hear the news. I know he is in good hands and hope to hear more good news soon.

My drivers license is a conundrum, with Organ Donor and Safe Driver right next to each other. My body has been abused by its trustee for almost three quarters of a century so I pity the person who gets any of my organs. If I had known I was going to live this long I would have taken better care in my youth.

Thank you all for your comments and support. I showed my wife all of the comments and I think she finally understands why I like to hang out of the forum.

Chris is in surgery now and is expected to be out around 10:30-11:00CST.

We are anxious but feeling positive. As soon as I have an update I will post a note.

I would ask that you keep the family of the donor in your thoughts and prayers as well. In doing a little searching I think I found out who the donor is and he was a remarkable young man.

Duker,

Hopes and prayers are with you, your family and the donor's family.

It is a wonderful thing to donate and pass along that gift so other(s) may have a happy healthier life.

A quick update ....

Chris just got out of surgery and the surgeon said it went really well and the kidney is already producing urine (good sign.)

The nurses will be doing daily bloodwork and ultrasounds to spot any potential clotting which was the issue in the last surgery.

We aren’t of the woods just yet but it is looking good. It’s a strange feeling knowing my son is doing better while someone else’s family is suffering.

Bob, you mentioned being too old to be a donor and I know the feeling as I am already replacing parts like a hip and knees etc.... but while in the waiting room we met a family whose father was getting a new liver and the donor was in his ‘70’s (live donor) so even our old parts might save the life of someone!

I can’t thank you guys enough for the support. It is a great feeling to see the comments when you are anxious and waiting.

Had some great news early this morning.... my son’s creatinine levels have dropped three points which is huge so the kidney is doing its job. The only concern now is clotting which was the issue in the first transplant. However, my sons color is coming back and says he already feels better aside from the surgical scar.

I am home for a little while to get some sleep as nurses were in and out of the room all night. After awhile even the cute ones aren’t so cute when you don’t get any sleep! I told my son that’s when you know you are getting old when sleep is more important than cute nurses. I am just trying to figure out why I always get the former East German woman wrestlers as nurses when I was in the hospital ....

Very happy for you and your son Duker. That kind of news makes me feel that the healthcare system might actually work after all.

Craptain, thanks for stopping in. The system is working but my tab is going to seriously eat into my beer budget!

Thanks for the upbeat update Duke.

Still have body parts crossed. Things are going numb.... :eyecrazy:

Dan, as for keeping things crossed.... we both know if Hope was an Olympic sport then every old marriage guy would be a gold medalist! When they go from blue to purple.... you have had too much ******!

In all seriousness thanks for the comments.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your son, and as you said thoughts with the family of the donor.
Such a precious gift to be given.

Olds, you said it..... it is a precious gift. Thank you for stopping by.

Duker, great news and thank you for the update on Chris's progress. I clearly recall the nurses in intensive care to be young and recent beauty contest winners. I think it has something to do with strengthening one's will to live. Sadly you are rarely able to lift anything more than an eyebrow in intensive care. When you feel a little better and move out of intensive care the wards are full of Nurse Ratched wannabes. If you relapse, they send in the granny nurses.

I'm trying my best to clean up some of my organs. Liver hasn't cycled alcohol in 16 years and I understand it can heal itself.
