Whaaaaat!!! Nothing is more important than cute nurses :pimpflash

Awesome to hear Chris is doing good!!!

Glad to hear your son is doing well.

Just now catching up, congrats on the successful surgery! I'll keep things crossed as well.

JB

Thanks for sharing this journey!
Photos show a great location and your step-by-step thinking. Good on ya.

Duker, great news and thank you for the update on Chris's progress. I clearly recall the nurses in intensive care to be young and recent beauty contest winners. I think it has something to do with strengthening one's will to live. Sadly you are rarely able to lift anything more than an eyebrow in intensive care. When you feel a little better and move out of intensive care the wards are full of Nurse Ratched wannabes. If you relapse, they send in the granny nurses.

I'm trying my best to clean up some of my organs. Liver hasn't cycled alcohol in 16 years and I understand it can heal itself.

So happy to hear about the successful surgery and best wishes to your family and thoughts to the donors family what a gift to give!

I want to thank you all for the comments and well wishes. We brought Chris home last night from the hospital and he and his new kidney are doing very well. He is sore but happy to be home. I will miss the nurses!

Thank you again to everyone. Hopefully the next update will be pictures of Chris and I tackling some projects on the Barn!

What they said. I’m sure your son is ready for normal. Some QST with dad is a great goal.

I’m glad things are going well this time. Transplants are incredible, but so fragile. I’m in medical, and I’ve always been so receptive to the nature of my transplant patients. Just follow all of your docs instructions. ;)

Wonderful news!

Always nice to have good news.

Excellent news Duke.

Hell yeah!!! Great news

Thank you guys for stopping in and commenting. As an update, Chris had a another full set of labs including a sonogram and everything is looking very good. They even lowered his anti rejection dosage meds a little.

He can’t lift anything yet but he wants to head out to the shop this weekend and maybe play with his forge. I told him pushing a broom might be in his future as he needed to clean up his mess from the 1 day in the shop we had before we got the call for the kidney.

As for me this weekend it will be doing front brakes for my youngest daughters car... you guys will laugh at me but I have never done a brake job with disc brakes. Now that I have the lift I have to justify its cost!

Duke good news again.

How is it that you never done disc brakes before? Do you just trade in your car(s)when they needed to be done?

Are you driving around in a Fred Flintstone automobile?

Pushing a broom will be a good start for your son. Glad everything checked out positive.
Duker’s Discount Disc Brakes open for business. Interesting that you haven’t done disc brakes yet. First time for everything and great reason for lift. Look sweetie I’ll save us $100 each time.

Great news! I truly hope that only good news is a continuing theme in your son's recovery!

If you've changed shoes in drum brakes, changing pads is usually very simple in comparison! Hope y'all enjoy the quality shop time.

Lol...yeah I get about 50K then it’s trade in time! Actually, I have a good mechanic so with a limited amount of free time I built furniture commissions instead of doing my own brakes. So the only brakes I have worked on were my old Camaro and Corvette brakes, otherwise known as my first two children. Both I sold to pay for my real kids. Now that I have the lift my wife is reminding me in her not so subtle way this was why I bought the lift!

I like the sound of that Shorty.... I might have to resort to that should the investment business takes a nose dive! It’s that or being a greeter at Walmart!

More good news!

Dave, it is scary how much I have turned into my dad! Things I told myself I would never say....

Don...this might be the most expensive brake job ever done on a cost per hour basis... lol.

Uug! You know my sideline endeavors and my wife’s jab always cut straight to the bone. When I come in whining and bitchy about some car related issue she just says, “but it’s your passion”

I swear she’s a mean, spiteful, sadistic woman under that smiling face :spit:

It’s been waaay to hot for me to get a bunch of stuff done that needs to be finished but there has been some progress.

The garage is finally done. I wasn’t planning on doing this stage until after my outdoor kitchen but my in-laws who live here full time really needed a way to get in and out of the barn during wet weather so it was moved to the top of the list....

It easily fits two cars and has a storage space for their golf cart.

40965ef813c80800c007db792e0c40d5.jpg

I wanted to match the look of the garage/carport with the barn so the ceiling is done in 1 x 6 pine as well. With about 4 coats of clear I am hoping the maintenance will be low but we will see how it handles the Texas heat.

There is a new covered walkway and a new fence that allows my mother-in-law to open up the back door to let her dogs out. Every time I walk by the gate however I cringe as the sloping sidewalk makes the gate look un-level. I added some solar light caps to the fence and it makes for a nice look at night.

This fence will replace the “temporary” fence that has been there for almost two years.

There are still some work to be done on the exterior of the metal shop like paint the doors and add some underground drainage but it’s getting close to be done.

dde3a9ea3ec746e477d421b5ed5002ce.jpg

The grass is slowly filling itself in around the place but we could use some rain.

The next batch of photos will be the progress on the wiring of the metal shop.

Wow, I'd say you've been busy. Looks great.

So what is the brown and blue cabinet in the background of the gate pictures?

Looks incredible. One of my favorite builds on here.

Man, such a great looking place.

Wow! The place looks amazing! If I come down to live with you can I get my own garage too

Thank you guys, I appreciate the comments. It has been a long journey and a lot of work to get to this point but we love it.

And BF.... I don’t know about your own garage but we can certainly work on your porch sitting skills.... you will need to build up some endurance for your new porch!

LOL .....Shorty.......NO More kids! I finally got rid of one more and just one left! My wife says she will be glad when I am the last kid in the house!

Wow, I'd say you've been busy. Looks great.

Thanks Craig, those are some Strong Hold and Lyon cabinets I got awhile back. I was moving them from the metal shop to the wood shop to make room for the electrician. I need to repaint them but they will be great storage for the shop shop and make it looking less cluttered.

Aww pa, we promise to mow the grass and keep our room clean.

On you sloping sidewalk at the gate, I was reading Architectural Digest last month and there was an article showing where the unaligned gate/walk was a new style. Because of that, I decided on the same look. 9d8328c7ff311b6fd0071ec9125cc679.jpg
