Duker, the place is looking sharpe.

Some great curb appeal, or maybe ditch appeal in your case.

Love the porch, gotta be great in this heat.

Duke, place i s looking great.

While you are installing more spigots, you should add hydrant(s) out on the field(s) in the ground.

I have to add a few sprinkler heads myself and when I do, I am going to do that.

The place looks exceptional bud! All that gorgeous green grass.....very inviting. I finally got the wife to hire some professionals to deal with my yard in Cali and in the last couple months it’s really come back into shape and looking sharp again.

Now I can’t wait to finish up this move and start on the Arizona landscaping. Yezzzz sir, I’ll have brown rock, gray rock, red rock, sparkly rock, dull rock and maybe even some hard rock with one cactus.

I can’t wait to take care of the new place :)

SS outlet covers are a great way to go. Looks like you’ll have a nice line of equipment along that wall.
Great your son has found a new passion. How’s he doing by the way?

Barn and yard is looking great. Looks like a nice place to hang out. Have a good ol’ fashion Texas bbq hoedown.

Barn's looking good all over. Bet you're looking forward to getting everything set up and working!

Hey guys I apologize for the delay in responding I don’t seem to get notifications anymore in this thread. Have to check my settings again.

Had a bit of bad news yesterday as one of our barn neighbors passed away unexpectedly. He was a super guy always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. He had just retired back in June and was looking forward to retirement. It was a sobering reminder to enjoy life and QST everyday.

Thank you for checking out the thread and enduring my comments about the journey! If you are thinking about a Barndominium all I can say is don’t wait! It has been one of the best decisions my wife and I have made for ourselves and for our family.

Thanks for the input! We are a family of four with a low income, our biggest obstacle will be finances. But we are exploring our options. The Morton building you chose looks fantastic! My wife and I also really like the paneled look of your ceilings and wood shop.

Hey Duke,

Sorry to hear about your neighbor. That stinks for his family. That is my nightmare, retire and not live long enough to enjoy it. But than again, being home with my spouse I just might want the alternative, I got a sneak peak of that these last few months. Not pretty.

Thank you, it took us a long time to get to the point that we could build it but I am very happy with how it turned out. I will say Morton is definitely the more expensive option for Barndominiums. For me however, it ended up being really the only choice I had at the time as I couldn't find any other builders who would build it on our property at reasonable prices. The 50 year warranty and the quality were a bonus. Most builders were pricing the plans as a conventional house which put them way out of the market.

Here is another build to check out. They had the shell built and then completed the interior themselves.

I wish you luck in whatever direction you end up. Thanks again for stopping in.

LOL... I can relate to both John! I have to admit though it kind of freaked me out a little... I tried to use it as an excuse to up my tool budget now but that didn't seem to go well with the CFO of my family....

I am not a small guy but he was a little too big to strip search!

I was going to send him back to FL with about 40lbs of tooling I have set aside for Mack for his lathe but it would probably cost him as much in luggage fees to ship!

That reminds me ... I need to PM Mack for his address.

Andy, I hope you guys have a great time... I would love to make the road trip up there to see your shop one day!

Thanks! It’s my first experience with a Miller so going to see how it compares.

Careful, it's a slippery slope!

I grew up on Lincoln, its what dad and his buddies always had. I started collecting welders a few years ago, and most of em were Miller. It's turned me into a total Miller *****.
I've got 5 of em now. I've never been more impressed with a company than that one.
They've routinely coughed up decades old manuals for me and emailed em for free. Parts are easy to find and usually not too expensive. And they are typically robust.
Hope you are just as impressed!

In between rain storms my wife wanted to get some of her items checked off the list. One of them was a fence around her garden. Last year the Deer had quite the buffet to graze upon at night so she wanted to get the fence up so she could start working on getting the raised beds built and the watering system in place so she would be ready for spring. I got the tractor out and went to town with the post hole digger. I put in 8" posts for the corners and 4" posts everywhere else. I got all the posts in and most of the cross ties in just waiting to find my tie wire buried in the container somewhere.

The garden is not very big at roughly 30' x 30' but it located in one of the few spots on our property where she can get enough sun to grow what she likes. My vegetable preference runs in the potato category and that doesn't quite make the cut....

Her Christmas gift is I am having a crew come in a put in some cinderblock raised garden beds. Its actually more of a gift to myself and I did NOT want to build those... !

gee Duker you buy yourself some nice toys and build something for the spouse with them, that's a great spouse..

Did you bring a water pipe out there so the spouse doesn't have to drag a hose out there?

I'm looking forward to following your raised beds build. My wife has been asking for raised beds and I'm also wondering if I have the energy for that project... Anyway, I expect that I'll see some ideas I need to borrow.

Also looking forward to your take on the raised beds! We have been raised bed gardening for many years. Getting ready to redo some beds for the spring ourselves.

I have a great spouse... I am sure she will be canonized as a Saint for putting up with my BS all these years...!

I did run a water line to her garden. However, without thinking I didn't put in a backflow preventer to the well so I need to fix that. Once she gets her bed sizes laid out I will run another take off line for her watering system.

Yeah the idea of tossing cinder blocks around all day is not something I wanted to do... As for ideas I am interested as well with what she is going to come up with... I thought she was going to top the cinder block but is talking about planting some flowers that the bees like but bugs dont. Gardening is beyond my wheel house...

Raised beds will definitely make gardening better and perfect for a little corner of taters.

My thoughts exactly... I should get a tater corner!

We should probably pick your brains Terry!

Thanks for stopping in guys!

It it is not too late you may want to run a multi conductor cable in the trench with the water line so you can have automatic valves for the beds. We laid cable in all of the trenches when we laid the pipe. Controller is in the barn. Now she can adjust watering times for each box and there is still capacity for more valves to add for the orchard.

Chris, sorry didn’t see your message until now. I should have done that when I dug the first water line in as it would have saved me another trench for electrical that I ran separately to a storage building for her garden tools. I will be using that source now to run the valves off a timer. I didn’t realize the garden was going to be this elaborate!

Been awhile since we made any changes to the barn but here are the latest....

New sidewalk going in so I don’t have to walk in the mud to the metal shop...

And a new approach to the metal shop so that I can work outside or wash cars off before bringing them into the auto bay.
