I’m sure someone will think this is dumb but my outside AC unit has been making a strange noise.I figured it was the fan motor going but after I took it apart I noticed the noise was coming from a “bag” that is covering the AC condenser. It looks like it’s coming apart and I haven’t figured Out if I can buy a new one or tape up this one.The flapping noise when the fan is running is driving me nuts! Is this bag vital? What’s its purpose ? Other than to drive me insane !

Do you mean the compressor or condenser. I have never seen a compressor covered with a bag. And if you have a bag covering the coils, that is restricting air flow. Are you sure this bag didn't blow in there some how. We need pictures

Ive seen sound blankets around compressors. Probably what you have. If you remove it the noise from the compressor will be louder. You can tape it up or staple it.

It's the sound blanket .... for the compressor. Anything other than the builder grade normally has something.
