We've been in our house for six years now and I love it. House is very well built, except for the garage design.
My best friend when I was growing up had one like this and I didn't even think about it being a kid and all. houses were built around the same time, 64.
Nice two car attached garage with the only way into the house via stairs to the basement. Both houses have the main living rooms toward the garage but going through the basement with groceries isn't going to happen. Our kitchen is at the other end of the house.
Anyhow, it makes a two car garage a little tight. When I had my old Ford parked in there, it was rolled right along the edge of the stairwell and I still had to fold the mirror in on the other side so my wife could get her Rav4 in. It's not so bad now that I cut a garage door into the shop next to the house but the stairway still bothered me.
I decided it needed some storage so I built shelving over the well 48" wide (I happen to have the materials). Looking at that, I decided to run to get more lumber and made another level. Now I shaded the well so I picked up lighting from above and added one to the underside of the shelf. I'm happy with it. It gets the back seat to my Jeep in a safe place along with having a place to put summer furniture. It's not very organised yet cause I got tired and needed to get stuff put away. It will also get drywalled for a finished look.
Any one else have this dumb design???
