Dumb garage door opener question.

My parents garage door wasn't working so the gave me a call. I came over and it's constantly clicking, but not motor clicking, much softer. I puled it apart, and there's three relays clicking their little hearts out. I don't see any obvious bad components or solder joints but I did notice that the low voltage side of the transformer was fluctuating between 15 and 18 volts, the transformer is labled 22v, the relays are labeled 24v.

That's my issue right? It seems like the simple answer, I'm just not sure if it's a cause or an affect. But nothing is hot or smoking on the board, so I can't imagine the voltage is getting pulled down by a component.

Thanks guys/gals. I don't know know much about the theory and operation of openers.

You do not mention make or model.
But check for a trace break on the board.
It is a somewhat common problem.

I'm not certain of the model but it has a Liftmaster 41A5021-1H-315 logic board.

They are cheap enough I think I'll just order the board. Their problems become mine, so less problems are better.

Did you unhook the door from the opener? From experience, the clicking can come from the chain being stuck against the stop. Only way to tell is to physically look at where the chain is. If it is hard against the stop you will need to loosen the chain, jump it a couple of teeth on the sprocket then check the inside gears fo excessive wear. You will alsoneed to adjust limits again on where the door stops at open and close. Does the door open manually? If not, check for broken spring or cable.

How old. Over 12 years. Man just it your losses and put in a new opener. Might save ya swapping out good parts and more problems down the road.

I'd disconnect all sensor wires going into the unit first. If the relays stop, then hook the sensors back up one, by one.
