I’m a new welder. Is it safe or unsafe to weld wearing wet boots that leak so with wet feet, standing in a dry shed on a dry gravel floor? Mig welder, if it matters.

You should be fine unless you attach the ground clamp to one of your appendages. By grounding the piece you take yourself out of the equation unless you have faulty bare leads. I have welded in flip flops if it was a quickie on the mower or something so I could keep going. Weld away.

I've talked to guys who would weld on barges in waist deep water. Said he got zapped all the time. As I understood it as long as the lead is good you're fine but it will let you know as soon as is has a crack and grounds somewhere else.

Yeah, wet gloves and wet footwear is a recipe for getting zapped. Keep your feet and hands dry or you will get some good zaps. Doesn't feel good, I assure you. BTDT. I'm welding on ships, so you ground to the hull. You become the path of ground if your ground isn't attached to clean metal.

Could throw off the rhythm of your heart and kill you. Extreme, but it does happen.
