Just found these next to the dumpster by my work - two 5-foot Steelcase shelf units. I snagged them after verifying that they were bound for the trash. I'm going to have to stack them since I don't have a 10 foot stretch of wall free in the garage. They are each about 17"x17"X60".

That right there is . . . . some major . . . . SUCKAGE !!!!

Yep, you earned it . . . YOU **** !!

Those are absolutely perfect for a garage as the flip-up doors don't take up much space and keeps things clean and out of the way.

I looked all over for some of that style overheads, where the door flips up inside the unit, so you can still put stuff on top.
Couldn't find any, and ended up buying regular cabinets.

Nice find, GREAT price! You ****!

With them being 5' long and having mounting brackets at the ends, I think I'm going to open up the wall (plywood on the bottom half and pegboard on top) and put in an extra stud for mounting them. They are heavy. Or should I mount a piece of plywood behind screwed into the existing studs and mount the rails to the plywood?

It's too bad they can't be mounted side-by-side - it would be nice to be able to use the top for extra storage.

what about a 5' french cleat with plywood? mount half to the wall and half to the rail, then hang them.

Good haul !

I picked up an Enco belt sander/grinder from the city dump. Only thing wrong was the el-cheapo on/off switch went out. Installed new switch and it works great!

I guess these things are called binder bins - they're tall enough inside to hold 3-ring binders. It should make a good place to keep loose power tools and other items too tall for the tool cabinet drawers.

I took the pegboard down last night and will put in another stud this weekend. I have the slotted rails and brackets that normally attach them to the cubicle wall. I thought about french cleats, but there doesn't seem to be a good way to attach the half that goes on the cabinet.

With the overhead type of door, they are very dangerous and not to be used by the home owner. Therefore I'll be up to pick them up on Saturday. Do not attempt to hang or use these cabinets,no matter what some of the other GJ members may say. That is all.
