dumpster diving

Back from a successful trip....the house across the street was just sold and the kitchen is being redone. The contractors weren't necessarily careful when pulling down the old cabinets, but I managed to grab two out of the dumpster that are salvagable. A little glue and some paint and I'm good to go.

I work for a construction company as a senior project manager on major hospital projects. You would just CRY at the stuff that gets thrown away during a hospital renovation. I could sell stuff on eBay if I just had a place to store it all. Stainless steel cabinets, tables, plastic storeage containers, shelving units, lights; you name it. We did a OR job and we threw away two overhead OR boom lights. But they were 277/480v but they would have been great for someone.

Ya my Dad Works For Waste Management(garbage company) He drives a front end truck and He finds good tools for me all the time.

Stainless steel sinks make GREAT parts washers. I rescued a two pot deep unit with drain boards on both sides, rigged a fluid recycle system with flex hoses/brushes for each pot and it works like a champ! I can easily put cylinder heads and four cylinder blocks down in a pot. Keeping it clean is a piece of cake too.

I believe that used stainless kitchen equipment can be bought for a fraction of the new stuff too, mainly because it takes so much labor to clean them up to county sanitary standards but if you are doing it for yourself it doesn't really matter.

My wish is to one day run across one of those overhead boom lights from a dentists office.

I am outside of a little town up in the mountains called Boone in the northwest corner of the state. I am from Greensboro and my mother still lives in High Point and I owe her a visit. Don't son's ALWAYS owe their mothers a visit? LOL

What does the thing look like? A picture perhaps? Does it run off of 110-115? And most importantly, how much bucks?

I used to dumpster dive when I was a kid. I found all kinds of great stuff. I've still got a lot of it. My favorite find was a 1930's Underwood typewriter. My friends and I built a treehouse from discarded wood we found in the trash. Those were good times...

My work is renovating, and removing a lab, TONS of shelving, countertops, sinks, lighting being thrown away! I did save a large tool cabinet and cart both on casters to bring home. I've seen a similar cabinet in northern tool for close to $300!

I used the inside tub from an old washing machine for a live well. Put a hinged lid on it stuck it under the pier. It worked great.
