Dumpster find - what to make with it?

I always have my eye out for usable scrap metal or other things I can repurpose. I found this yesterday. It was some type of fire pit or trash burner. The screens and cross braces are trash, but the 4 curvy legs are very soild. I think they could be used to make a tool stand, work table or what? I'll strip it down tomorrow and think about what to do with it. I'm open to ideas - what do you think?

The sun is going down, but I got it apart and got one side stripped down. The legs are quite sturdy. I'll do the other one tomorrow. Lots of possibilities here.

Ya know - that's exactly what I was thinking. Except to use it outside for my firepit.

Not a very exciting project, but I wanted to wrap up the thread and show what I did with it. I had some scrap bed frame steel, so it was used to frame the legs and make a firewood rack for my firepit. I put a plywood top so it can be used as a table also on the covered patio. The only thing I had to buy was the piece of plywood.

Nice job! I like the shape of the legs and the way you stretched the length of the table with the bed frame material. You have imagination and the "builder's eye" for scrap materials. Keep posting, projects like that inspire everyone. I wish I had that way of looking at the world.

I can’t draw worth a damn but try and visualize this. Screw 2 of the legs to the wall for a book shelf. The distance from the ceiling is dependant on the length of the legs. Cut some rough or character lumber about 3/4” thickness for the inside the L shaped leg mount.
Now take the other 2 legs and screw to the ceiling. The 2 supports that originally held the base together can be drilled and screwed/lagged to the wooden shelf mounted previously. The screw/lag should be four sided and beat up a bit or aged for appearance sake. The metal should be either be patina or I like the hammered black paint effect.
I would take the top portion remaining mount a light in it and hang it with a chain from the shelf. Put your recliner under it and read your newspaper.
Like I said I can’t draw worth a damn but can visualize it just fine. I seldom use plans but just go where a project takes me.

Thanks guys. With imagination, many different uses can be visualized. I really liked to curvy legs, just glad I could make something useful from it. Bed frame is really strong, but can be a bear to drill, but it's cheap and readily available. I always seem to have some laying around.

Well done. Only thing that I'd probably do would be to radius the corners, but it still looks very nice.

They are cast iron or cast steel, not sure which. But quite heavy and stout.

In this case, its rewarding because it would have ended up in a scrap bin otherwise. Now it will live on for many more years.

I'm surprised at you , No I'm , a person with dumpester divin skills couldn't find a free piece of plywood? I would be out at a new housing construction site, they always give you scrap from their pile, or at least in Kansas they do.

The shame of it all

I was at Home Depot for something else when I got it. I could have run around the usual places looking for a piece, but in this case the minimal cost outweighed the time needed to hunt it down.
