54 is the last year I see Dunlap socket sets in a metal box and it's nothing like yours Don. The sets run a few more years in cheap plastic boxes with sliding transparent tops then drop down to sockets with a spinner handle in a vinyl pouch. I agree with OTG, Japanese knock off.

54 Dunlap.jpg

I posted some of my Dunlap hex sets in #181 and even have some metric hex drive sockets that may be from one of these sets marketed in Dunlap’s last year of 1960. Like you, I have never found a listing for a square drive Dunlap set. If they are knock offs, one would think they might have imitated a more prestigious brand than the Sears cheapies. Sears was importing tools from Japan during the Dunlap years so maybe these were from a Japanese suppler trying to interest Sears in taking them on. If that is indeed the case, their timing was unfortunate with Sears making the decision to discontinue the brand. Other than the branding error, they seem to be of quite high quality, better than most of Sears popular Dunlap drive tools offerings.

It does seem odd that as far as I know, nobody has seen another Dunlap (or Danlap) socket that is square drive, and there are a lot of collectors on this site that have looked at plenty of sockets. There must have been very few sold.

Here is a alcohol torch I picked up. Not sure if it is Sears Dunlap. I have found pictures of this marked JIM DANDY and CRAFTSMAN but not another one marked Dunlap. Any ideas if it is Sears Item?

Check out the items in the top of my toolbox in the first picture of post 135. I’ve had it for quite a while. I found it at a Tahoe yard sale 6/2/17. I’ll edit in a picture when I find one of just the torch.

Not sure if it's complete but it looked good with the black finish. Cost $1

I see those flat stamped wrenches all the time at estate sales and are typically left over after all the picking.. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled and see if I can discover some Dunlaps….

They aren’t too hard to find. I found this almost complete set back in March 2017. Of course I find a lot more Oxwall stamped wrenches which I pitch into the garbage can if I accidentally bring any home.

My Dunlap No. 4485 5 Wrench set I got at a yard sale last year. Unfortunately, a bit of water got into my toolbox at one point. The only forge code on them is a V. Yes, I did pay $1. The rubbery holder has its snap broken and has a tear, but kept for posterity as most of these seem to have the metal clasp holder.

I picked these up this morning at the flea market. They look like caullkers to me. Maybe body tools? Whatever they are, they're going in the 'send to Donlap eventually' hold pile.

Sort of look like the tools that plumbers used to put "Chinking" material in black cast iron waste pipes before/after the lead was added to make the seal?? WAG:thumbup:

No idea, Dennis. Rare enough that I have never seen them before, but others may have. I don't see caulkers too often to begin with, regardless of brand, but when I do they seem to be PEXTO, DASCO, Woodings Verona, or Plomb. I did look in a few Sears catalogs from the 40's and couldn't even find them listed.

I've got several caulkers that are branded Craftsman, have never seen them in Dunlap. There seems to be a lot of Dunlap stuff that never made the catalogs. Guessing the array of Dunlap was larger in the retail stores.

I’m always surprised by the odd Dunlap products I run across. I’m up to three boxes of Dunlap stuff now. All of the yarning irons and caulkers I’ve run across have been Plomb.

Not surprising that these Craftsman caulkers bear the same 43xx parts numbers as the Dunlaps. Circle G makers mark.

I found a box that shows its years. 17" x 7.5" x 6". Not sure if the red tray is original - it fits lengthwise, but front-to-back it's a sloppy fit.

I picked up this 4oz. Dunlap ball peen hammer at a local estate sale for $1. Restored it with a new hickory handle finished in clear Awl Grip and Navy Blue Awl grip paint.

Here are all my Dunlap hand tools, I just picked up the 10" Dunlap pipe wrench this summer up in Michigan while on a trip.

And a few Dunlap branded bench top power tools I own and also restored also...
On the 8" Dunlap (Made by King-Seeley/Central Specialty 103.xxxx) I also have the Craftsman 1/2-HP 3450 rpm 115. Packard made motor bought along with the table saw when brand new. I've also found the super rare hard to find Craftsman cast pedestal stand made for this Dunlap 8" tilting arbor table saw:beer:

Todd sent me this nice DOE set in a style that I hadn’t previously seen. They are now residing in the Dunlap box.

I found this on Friday but it was hiding in the trunk of the Camry until yesterday. The top drawer was full of resistors, for some reason. It is the second one I’ve found.
