This set has been in the family from new. Brought back to the UK by my uncle who was in the Royal Navy. Inherited from him by my father in 1964. Inherited by me from my father in 2004.

The pliers have not had much use at all as they seem flimsy and fragile when compared with the similar sized K-D MFG. Co. pliers that I
also have.

I have a couple DUNLAP's. They are light duty, for sure. And I can attest that they are thinner in every respect to the K-D miniature pliers counterparts that I also have, they are more cheaply pinned at the pivot, and, I suspect they are made from a pot metal composition, not an alloy steel.

But, I'm not sure the comparison is entirely fair. My K-D's are from the late 1930's, in a leatherette pouch, and the DUNLAP's are much later, probably, like yours, in that vinyl pouch, from at least the 50's and likely even later.

Also, and this is the most interesting part, my K-D's are marked K-D and clearly made by K-D, but they came in a FULTON pouch with a FULTON part number and they were marketed by Sears, Roebuck & Sons. The FULTON brand was not an economy line, it was their pre-Craftsman brand.

You can see the full set of four (4) K-D pliers in the K-D thread, where I already replied to your post there, Stubby.

Do any of you guys with Craftsman catalogs know which year the catalog was that is shown in these pictures? I can’t seem to locate it. IMG_4144.jpegIMG_4145.jpegIMG_4146.jpeg

Found this nice little Dunlap vise at a tag sale today. 3 1/2" jaw width, original finish mostly there and a nice Dunlap tag still in place. It seems to have had a relatively easy life. It seems to have an almost art deco style .Would anyone know the approximate age?

Dunlap 5 piece SAE Open-End Wrench Set with Original Holder Clip (patent 2181764) - Moore Drop Forge, Springfield, MA

The patent applies to Arthur T. Murray's ingenious design for a holder clip. The two cut-out tabs at the bottom of the holder, depending upon whether they are punched and bent at a 90-degree angle, or not punched, allows the same design to be used for both a five-piece and a six-piece set (as is shown in the patent drawing) with a minimum of production changes.

Here is a 1/2” cold chisel I found at a sale a couple of months ago. Cleaned, dressed and sharpened. The manufacture’s code is N in a square.IMG_4703.jpeg

Here is a pair of Dunlap plain handle pliers I found at a Nevada estate sale on Saturday. They cleaned up pretty well. I‘m not sure that the manufacturer of the Circle W logo tools has ever been definitively established IMG_6535.jpeg

I went through some boxes and found pieces to add to the ignition wrench set. The feeler gauge is a little large but I’m satisfied with the other tools. IMG_0694.jpegIMG_0695.jpegIMG_0693.jpegIMG_0692.jpeg

Took my Dad's old Made in Germany Dunlap wrench to work with me today and had some time to do a quick re-furb job. Came out great. Not sure if it was painted originally or someone else did it. My Dad loved flea market finds, so I'm pretty sure he didn't do it but probably paid a buck or two for it from some guy there.

Is it pronounced "Dun-lapp" or "Dun-lop" or "Dun-lip" ?

Also I guess Dunlap did not have ratchets? I've never seen one. But those "fat' DOE Dunlap wrenches used to pop up literally everywhere around here, there were like buckets of them at every flea and yard sale, usually badly rusted. As a budget tool they were just painted steel and the paint of course is long gone.

One of the items I found at a Carson City estate sale yesterday was this Dunlap claw hammer.. I’ll clean the paint spatters off the handle before adding it to my other Dunlap tools.IMG_2884.jpegIMG_2883.jpeg

I was under the impression that Dunlap hammers came with paint splatters on the handle.

The octagonal neck is nice. I have some old Craftsman hammers like that. The neck on mine is round like Don's. I've started picking up more DUNLAP tools now that I've started a DUNLOP box. The handle on this one appears to have come with an opaque stain or paint. I like their colorful decals.

Today I had occasion to take some pictures of the latches on my main Dunlap box. I took a few pictures of the contents while I was at it.IMG_7329.jpeg

Here's a lovely pair of Dunlap-branded pliers I found recently. I associate this style with Utica, but I think other makers produced similar items. The handles on this one are wider than the similar Uticas that I have.
The "nested diamond" handle pattern says "Craftsman" to me.
There appears to be a poorly-forged Utica 3-diamond mark (pic #5) but I might be the only one that thinks so.
Anyone have a take on this?
