I recently found a socket set in the red metal box just like d42jeep showed in post #381. Based on the picture of Don's set, it appears I am missing the ratchet and adapter. Anybody have any spares they're willing to trade?20221213_190958.jpg20221213_191011.jpg

Pretty good haul of Dunlap wrenches made by Lectrolite at this morning’s estate sale a few blocks from home. They should clean up pretty well.

Lucky guess! The larger one came from a Berkeley estate sale. The smaller one came in a care package from Tin Medic 12/18.

I rescued a Dunlap blow torch from a neighbor’s trash pile. I tried to pump it up and see if it would build pressure, no luck.
One of these days I may take the pump out and see if I can replace the cup washer.

I last used a gasoline blow torch in 1959.

Looking forward to seeing that.

^ I recently read quite a lengthy essay about the blow torch. From the mid-1920s up until about 1960 that was a standard item in almost every garage.

From what I understand they were a necessity in the plumbing trade when lead was used. Also good for defrosting frozen pipes and such.

I'd love to find an old brass one reasonable and restore it to shiny greatness. I'd never fill it and light it up, though.

^ They were far more common than we think today. Until Otto Bernz designed and marketed those neat little bottles that any child could use, blow torch was it. Clayton & Lambert and Otto Bernz were two large manufacturers. Ashton, Bruno Martin, and Diener were also major makers. (blow torch thread)

I was poking around a shop yesterday, and spotted these red plastic items. Not an intentional collector of Dunlap, so they stayed where they were.BB303AA0-0465-4B69-AFDC-3CD8ED1AA35D.jpeg
The ratchet and the spinner both have “Dunlap” on them, but the sockets only say “Made in USA.” Now that I posted the pics, I notice the ratchet is stamped with an S-in-a-circle.92EF89F8-8D50-41A9-8A9E-779E750DE2EF.jpegI don’t think the L-drivers or plug had anything on them. Sadly, no clear lid to be seen. 747C7753-5FE3-4D62-BCBC-CC2456CC642C.jpeg8D60413C-D6B2-4123-8417-D962C3B98F5A.jpegI didn’t check the hex keys.

I would have felt bad about you leaving both of those behind if I didn’t already have both of them. I haven’t checked my hex keys to see if they are marked. I should probably do that.

I posted this project on the Show us your planes thread. Perhaps it would have been better to post it here so I will.
I found this rusty plane at a garage sale Friday, if it hadn’t been Dunlap I would have left it behind. IMG_1080.jpeg
I took it apart to dip the rusty pieces in the evaporust IMG_1133.jpeg
I cleaned up the handlesIMG_1149.jpeg
It came out of the evaporust today. Here is the completed restoration. IMG_1153.jpegIMG_1154.jpegIMG_1157.jpegIMG_1155.jpeg
