Thought that I was getting a pretty good deal with a KRA-380 roll cab and unused "Snap On" upper chest until I got a good chance to examine the top chest. No markings other than "MADE IN CANADA" in the middle of the back panel. Closer examination of the cover showed someone had redrilled it to mount a reproduction vintage Snap On logo. What a ***** I feel like!

Can anybody ID the manufacturer from the photos?

I don't know enough to tell, but could it be made by Beech ?
(that's the only Canadian box maker I know of)

Don't know, thought that it was a great deal at $ 400.00 if the top was legit, but now know better. Tried to text the seller for an adjustment but my number was blocked. Gee, maybe he knew ...

The lower box (roll cab) is legit. KRA-380 built in 1979. the upper is the "new old stock Snap On". So I basically paid the $ 400 for the legit bottom cab which I thought was probably worth $ 250 tops. I couldn't do a good enough job beating myself up about this stupidity, so I came here for some help in that regard. LOL! really, I'd like to know who may recognize the maker of the top box if possible.

As you see KRA's are made in canada. Look for the part number on the box, my kra-300f was stamped on the back, check to see if you can find a part stamping...

I understand what you're saying 48548. However, when I looked behind the front cover, I can see a previous badge (stamped) mounting slot and two newly-drilled holes for the reproduction & "period-correct" Snap On logo on the upper box.

Does it have a snapon on part number? I know I have some newer plates, and that topbox has trim on it, so it is newer. Maybe they wanted the trim plates to match... My 300f was from 78-79 and it matches the square plates.

So quality is good enough to have been a snap-on and yet you were willing to pay more just for a name plate?

Same quality, same color, I'm not sure other than fan boy pride why you are questioning yourself.
I understand wanting g to know the manufacturer, I don't understand how not being snap-on is making you beat yourself up.

I'd be upset to but there isn't too much you can do about it, other than research what it really is.

Can you turn the seller into Craigslist? Maybe CL will block him or her in the future.

This would be a waste of his time. CL does nothing like that.

I'm with the guys who think its a decent looking box, should hold tools fine. 98% of the people who come into your garage would never know the difference, and your tools certainly won't.

But, if your that unhappy that it isn't a real "snap on" and just looks like a nice old box, sell it. Life is too short to be unhappy every time you look at it.

Slap it back on craigslist as a tool box and move on with life, figure that you learned something. You bought it, someone else will (and may not care that its' not "real").

My best answer to all is: Mea Culpa, Mea culpa, mea Maxima Culpa. All of you old altar bays will recognize that. it's not "Fan Boy Pride" it's more like I thought that I had a version of the "Holy Grail" the way that THAT THE ITEM WAS PRESENTED. I'm not going to turn in the seller to Craigslist it's pointless, I've already tried to contact him and been blocked. I am not going to be busted by this $400.00 mistake (less the true value of the lower unit, more like $ 150). I'm just going to chalk it up to "life tuition" and leave it at that. All I'm asking for is if someone can tell me who made the upper box, as it seems to be a little too flimsy for my needs and if I resell it, I want to be honest and not to screw some one else.

I understand your frustration and wanting to know the truth. Where was the other logo? (the one you suspect had been removed)

I have a tool chest that is not the same size and drawer setup, but it has drawer slide attachments that look exactly like yours. My box is a Husky from Home Depot. I purchased mine used, but it was probably new 15-20 years ago. I looked on the back of mine and it says "Made in Canada" in the center of the back panel near the top as well. The color, lid hinge design, trim on the front of each drawer, and general build of my box looks exactly like yours. It's a nice box. Not Snap-on, but still better than most of what you find in stores now.

That seems like the closest you will get to an answer. If you don't like it, now you can sell it as a husky with a snap-on badge and recoup some of your money.

You know, I have two harbor freight boxes right next to my two snap on boxes, They don't fight, my snap on boxes don't move their selves to the other side of the garage over night. You were happy with it enough to buy it, don't let little things get under your skin.
If it bothers you that much box it up and I will add it to my boxes.. No one around in my neighbor hood would be able to tell the difference. It don't look bad with the bottom box.
Don't kick your self. just put your tools in it and be happy you didn't spend more on the set. Chalk it up to experience. Or call it stupid tax ( I think that one is used all ready.) Just don't let it get you down, it is only a tool box.

To Jeremy V., fowldarr, Richard Cranium, sberry, et al, I understand that I have no one to blame for this act of stupidity than myself. I will use the box I have and hopefully will, at some point, acquire a matching top box to the KRA-380 (which, by itself is a NICE BOX). I am more upset with myself for being "blinded by what appeared to be a great deal" and drop my guard. Shame on him for setting the stage. Shame on me for taking the bait. No one to blame but me.

By the way, if you look at the "family" photo of my tool boxes, you will see 20 year old Craftsman, 2 year old Harbor Freight disguised as " BINFORD" next to this new acquisition. So it should prove itself that I am not a "Toolboy" fan. Just thought that I could get a great box at a great price - Caveat Emptor!.

Jeeez dude put the firearm down and back away from the ledge.

Don't know your market but that set up is worth $400 out here. Bottom alone would bring $300 pretty easy.

Canadian Beach brings a small premium actually. That too sure looks like the old husky boxes which were made by Beach. No stamping on the back of the box?

No I'd sticker inside a drawer?

Please understand that I am PO'ed at me, not anybody else. I am trying to determine the origin of the "Made in Canada" upper box see post #1 and pictures). Talked myself into thinking I made a major score - a dumb idea as I'm smarter (or should be) than that. Just a wake-up call to anyone else out there who comes across a deal too good to be true. I was too excited to hear the alarm bells ringing in my head - don't make the same mistake.

That was nice of jeremy v to take some time to inspect and measure some dimensions on his own box for you

So are your original badge holes measuring 2 5/8" on center?

Don't sweat it - it ***** to feel like you got burned, but I think you're breaking even overall...

Aw... anybody who is honest and trustworthy has made mistakes like this before. It only proves you are basically truthful, unlike the creep who took advantage of you. Don't worry. Be happy.

Made In Canada is quality. Maybe not the highest of high quality like you were expecting with a true SO chest, but still good quality. You did OK for a "mistake". Enjoy!

So, let me try to understand you're frustration. You thought that you had stolen this box for a fraction of what it's worth and now you're pissed at having gotten only somewhat more value than you paid. So screwing the seller would have been fine but being taken (slightly) for a ride now makes suicide your only option. Is that about right?

I'm with you. Getting duped makes one feel terrible.
I would be ballistic about it. To be honest, I never get over stuff like that. And yes, life moves on.
