Durable and Impact Resistant Paint

I’ve been using Rustoleum hammered paints for painting vintage bench vises and other equipment for years. It looks beautiful and coats well, but isn’t very durable or impact resistant. I’m looking for a more durable impact resistant paint that can either be brushed on or comes in a rattle can. I don’t want to have to use a spray paint gun to apply it. I should be able to inadvertently whack the item with a hammer and not have the paint chip off if possible. Does anybody have some recommendations? I know the old Hammerite paint used to be very durable because they used glass bits in it, but I understand the formulation has changed and it doesn’t hold up as well today.

I think that appliance epoxy is an excellent choice but it only seems to come in either black or white. Are there other colors that you can buy it in?

"Implement" paint. For HD equipment and farm equipment. Limited colors. It does come in rattle can.

If you are spraying, mix in "enamel hardener". Almost as good as epoxy !

I did pick up some of the farm implement paint in a really nice deep blue color. I’ll try to use some later on this week on a restoration project.

Rust bullet is what you're looking for; once fully dry, even a darn chisel cant get it off without substantial effort.

I brush and roll hammered paint with enamel hardener all the time. Not only is it harder, you don't have to wait a month to use it.
It's really dangerous to spray hardened paints, YMMV.

Van Sickle tractor paint is really tough. The tractor paint at tractor supply *****. Sorry, I don't remember the brand. Rustoleum tractor paint gets good reviews but I've never used it. Most epoxy paints are very good but are also a pain to use.

I looked at Rust Bullet and that looks very promising. You can buy it at Walmart. The only color I was able to find it in is gray. Are there other colors?

Ok, I just found several different colors of Rust Bullet. I may give this paint a try on some cast iron table legs.

The industrial finish is gray; they sell white and black overcoat options.

They now have a "duragrade" option, but i'm not sure of its strength relative to their industrial product.

Not sure of the breath of selection at wal-mart but they may only carry the automotive grade (thinner so you can use it in a spray gun).

The regular industrial option is what you want.

BarOx is what I use. I believe they recently changed the name to Gliptal or something like that.

It's about $60 a gallon, takes a solid 2-3 days to dry, but is tough paint.

I use automotive single stage 2K urethane. You've got to spray it but 2K paints are so much better than 1K.

General Coatings paint. I painted a snowplow with this stuff years ago and it was bulletproof.
I got it from a local industrial paint dealer.
