Durable Cordless Drill/Saw

Hi Everyone,

My name is Frank, I am 75 and I live in east central Florida. I have had several drill driver combo kits with several other tools included. These have been short lived despite reasonable care and use. (I build small boats as a hobby)

I am considering buying a new set (drill driver and 4" circular saw only if possible). I would like suggestions on what will last well and have few issues with breakage or battery life?

Thanks and best regards,
Frank

Hi Monte,

I had in mind about $150 if possible or maybe $250 max. I use Metabo grinders so you know I don't scrimp on tools. (can't spell einhandviekleschleffer)

Thanks for that Home Depot suggestion, but I just won't go there. My son bought me a 12V 4in one lithium ion set for Christmas. I took it into Home Depot on the 10 of January as the circular saw, sawsall and one of the two batteries wouldn't work. I didn't have the receipt as it was a gift and since it was bought in October it was more than 90 days. Their only option was for me to pay $35 for shipping and $100 for repair even though the defective items hadn't been used and obviously were new. They wanted to send back all of the kit or none so I chose to keep the drill, charger and battery that worked and threw the new defective saws and battery in their trash can. Paying $135 for repair of a set that cost less then that to begin with isn't acceptable. I will never own another Ryobi product either.

Best regards,
Frankk

Hi there frank I would suggest you spend a bit more and get better quality tools as these will last a lot longer than the cheaper ones. And if as you say you build small boats it sounds like your tools will get a lot of use.

I think for that price range it will be difficult to find something really good....a drill alone maybe ...

Bosh drills are great I got one for Christmas and love how good it works and how well balanced it is however I don't think you can get a circular saw with it.... We got 3 of them so they were $10 cheaper but I think normally a reconditioned one is $140-$150

I can't speak for their cordless saws, but I have beat on (well for a DIYer, I am not a pro) 2 Dewalt 14.4V XRP drills, and they still work as well today as the day I bought them.

P.S. You mentioned Ryobi, were these junk tools Ryobi? I have had 3 Ryobi drills and I agree they were ****, the batteries didn't last very long at all, when the batteries were new, they were just okay. What about the warranty? Ryobi claims a 2 year warranty. I guess the warranty **** too.

I am not sure who makes the 4" circular saw but I have the Dewalt with the 5 3/8"blade that does a nice job and the batteries seem to last. I seem to recall that the blades run between $8.00 dollars and up.

I'm personally a big supporter of the M18 line from Milwaukee. I doubt you can find a set for around $200 unless you get them refurbished.
