Are the 36T ratchets coming back or is old stock?

Never saw this set before.

Were these the Duralast ratchets that seemed popular on this site before the 72T Taiwan ratchets came out for virtually all budget manufactures (HF, Carlyle, Tekton)?

Yes. They were popular here because they were excellent and the price wasn't too bad for the time.

Since then prices have dropped and many more ratchets have come out with high tooth count and head/length configurations.

So are the new 72 or 100 tooth ratchet as good as the 36t? , I remember reading a members review of this 36t 3/8 rat compared to a snap which got me excited to try one but I haven’t sean a write up on the new ones

Own both and the 36T are beefier.

Mr. Holeshot loved these things.

That’s right it was Mr H that did the review, after reading that I was ready to drop some cash but then realized that it was 8-9 years old and are no longer available, or are they? I don’t see the 36t on AZs website

I’d guess the bigger teeth in the 36t would be stronger but do you think the new 72 tooth is of the same quality, are they made in China or Taiwan?

Yes, same quality. Same warranty. I'd vote get the newer high tooth count version.

I had 30 mins to kill so I stopped in to O’Reilly(thinking it was autozone lol) and wasn’t impressed with what they had, but got over to AZ and checked out the 72t ratchets. They seemed nice over and better than what I have for the most part. The only thing that seemed “ruff” was the reversing switch. It would kind of get locked one way but maybe it just needed to get broken in some? They did have one higher count rat think 90? Any comparison to the 72? I checked a few and they were all made in Twain

Most likely NOS, because 36T is so 90s.

I used to have 6 of Duralast 36T ratchets in the 90s/2000s. They are of great quality, better than the newer ones. Feels beefier and solid. They are basically clone of Snap-On's 36T.

I was at Autozone last week, their 72T quick release ratchets seem nice, the head is so much more compact than others on the market. 7c16f4dc848e827e60a62453dd17f523.jpg

Both are Taiwan and I like best the 36T, its a very strong ratchet.

I have to ask, as I gave GJ a break for a number of years...

What happened to Mr. Holeshot?

RIP Holeshot. Never like hearing such things.

He just stopped posting (he had detailed his numerous health issues). A member located an obit that even seemed to line with what we knew that was verifiable, but no one got 100% verification from a relative.

That's a shame. From memory, he was quite a character here on GJ.

Are these older 36t ratchets the same as the OEM ratchets sold on AZs website? Also I think I read that the oem ratchets were made by Williams, is that right?

Yes, they are the same as OEM Tools 36 tooth ratchets aside from the name on the head. No, they are not made by williams. It's hard to say which Taiwanese tool company makes them.
