They don't look identical! The duralast ratchets have been subjected to rigorous testing by at least one member here. It is a proven tool.

Ok I eat crow, just disassembled both 3/8 drives and they are the same style but the duralast had a slightly bigger top gear and the bottom part of the duralast was at least 3 times bigger, guess I'm buying a set now

Most of the "Duralast" sets...actually I believe ALL current Duralast sets have the new (greatneck) made ratchets which are not anywhere near as nice as the Duralast ratchets that you show packaged in your photos. Much has been discussed in the past regarding this, but just be careful of the bait and switch.

They should be different part numbers. I just bought a 1/2" drive and it's the "good" model. I had a hard time telling at first, but they list two different part numbers on their website, and the newer ones are cheaper.

Haven't verified that's the case, but that's what I'm guessing. :)

Nope, they are the same part numbers. If you bought your ratchet in a set from a store then it is a great neck re-branded POS. Very few NOS 3/8" drive sets (all of which are special order) come with the good ratchets. ALL other sets come with the POS ones with the same item number as the good ones.

There are four styles of duralast ratchets, sealed head Taiwan (good), sealed head china (****/sets only), round head (****) and lite weight (also ****)

PS: Ive been wondering when we would get another Duralast thread. This was record amount of time between threads, since I joined GJ. :spit:

3 days ago a friend of mine bought the 'set' with the cheap ratchets in them. not even comparable to the tiawan duralast. i have owned my duralast ratchet for probably 6-12 months, not sure, and it has been well worth the money.

Can also tell by the handle, there are 2-3 lines at the top and bottom of the handles, the cheap ones are smooth, the good ones contain texture in the middle
