Durham Wall Cabinets

Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with the Durham wall cabinets? I've been considering getting a pair and mounting them above my workbench on either side of a window in my garage. I was curious whether they were a good enough option considering the price point. I didn't find much in the way of reviews at GJ or elsewhere.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Durham makes some good stuff. I'd venture to say you can find some kind of Durham product in just about every industrial facility out there.

Oh boy your not going to like this.. I went through 6 of those cabinets from Zoro and then decided to go with a different style cabinet from Durham. The cabinet has a lot going on for it like, size, material and definitely the price. It was great quality but there is a problem in the manufacturing process for 5 of the 6 that I received. The 5 that were not damaged had problems with the doors either closing or out of alignment. I had a 3/8" gap at the bottom and either a 1/16" or 0 gap at the top.

I have now gone to this cabinet:

I ordered 3 and only 1 was good. 1 damaged and 1 with another problem with the doors. They really need to check their QC department.

Thanks for the feedback! At $85 per cabinet (after coupon), I think I'll order them in hopes that I either get lucky or that they've addressed QC recently and tamper my expectations a bit.

Anything else comparable just seems to be so much more expensive and I like the minimalist industrial look of the Durham cabinets. Here's hoping they show up in good shape.

Yes, everything comparable is crazy expensive. It's exactly the same reason I wanted to try them. Good luck with that model as I wasn't able to get any that were right. I have had success with the model that I posted above though. The shelves are just a bit odd and have dividers for the spray cans.

So this was a failed experiment (so far). I ordered two cabinets and the 1st one was delivered to the wrong address across the country and the second arrived with a very mangled corner.

That *****, I would blame the carrier for that. Why not eliminate the third party and just order straight from Durham?

I also had one delivered to KY while I'm in OH, haha. It did show up a few days later though. I still returned it because by that time I decided on a different style.

Yeah, I suppose the carrier could be at fault for both issues. Though I must say the little bit of foam in the corners meant to protect these cabinets in a cardboard box isn't sufficient.

I wasn't aware you could order directly from Durham. Their site points you to outside distributors from what I can see. Plus a 20% off Zoro coupon made these cabinets worth a shot. Hopefully I have a successful 2nd attempt at acquiring these.

My second choice cabinet was drop shipped from Durham. They did have better foam in the corners that actually did a good job.

So the 1st replacement for the one that was shipped to the wrong address arrived in excellent shape. Here's hoping the 2nd one arrives the same way. I must say Zoro has been really great to work with on this.

Is the gap correct on the doors or is there a bigger gap at the bottom vs top? Zoro was great through my entire ordeal. I'll do business with them again for sure.

I was on the fence as well before ordering. I ordered 6 of these HD G2216950 Wall Cabinets w/20% off Zoro Coupon about a year ago.

They were drop shipped and showed up perfect damage wise.

The misalignment of the doors is pretty dependent on the way they are mounted, even with these 18 gauge units. I had to tweak my mounting points with shims to get the doors level with an even reveal.

The paint finish is not the best. It's not consistent and has some inconspicuous areas that look like failed powder coat that has rust underneath. The finish is not failing, it just appears that way. It also shows fingerprints badly and doesn't really wipe clean without some effort.

They are certainly heavy duty

For what those cost at $250 a cabinet I'd be pissed if I had to do any work to them at all.
