Duro 3083 drill press restoration speed bump

Hello. I'm new. Doing my first restoration: an old Duro 3083 drill press. Everything was going pretty well until reassembly when I found that the two pieces that get squished together to lock the adjustable work table were frozen in place. Just a little light tapping (I swear!) and the first one crumbled.

Looking for advice how to proceed. I think the old ones can be drilled out? Have been looking for a parts diagram so I know the name of the parts I'm looking to replace. No luck yet.

You might try posting over at vintagemachinery.org.

Are those essentially wedges? You might be able to lever them out from the inside. And they were probably some kind of zinc diecast, maybe Zamac, so not surprising that they crumbled.

Yeah I'm waiting for admin to approve my registration :)
Yes to shaped wedges. Heat and more tapping got them out, but mostly they crumbled. I'm thinking of shaping new pieces out of aluminum rod.

What is the diameter? They are fairly standard.

I don't think aluminum would be a good choice... too soft. Those softer alloys deform. Atlas and then King-Seeley used an alloy (zamac) until the early '50s for Craftsman machines. Then King-Seeley switched to steel.

I realized there's another set on the head unit and removed them more carefully. They'll help with making the replacements. Just posting this for documentary purposes. Each one is 0.75 inch long, same as the width.
