A buddy of mine has an old flat head Ford motor in a period hotrod. Every so often he has to remove the heads and scrape the carbon out of them. It's hard to believe that this was considered normal service back in the day.

A carbon scraper was issue to every GMTK in WWII until 1943, when it was removed from the carry kit and only issued to higher echelon depot/motor pool tool-sets. I guess they figured out that they weren't going to be popping heads in the field.
The only reason I am familiar with the Duro version is because I did a little deep dive on the tool a few years ago. Duro was one of only a few mfgr's taking a spoon- (as Dads alluded to) or bearing scraper-like design approach. By far the most popular approach during WWII was the kind banding a bunch of spring steel pins together, and that was the kind of carbon scraper that was specified in the Ordnance Supply Catalog.
Below is an unbranded example (pictured with a file card, sorry), but you can find them branded by just about everyone, including Blue-Point, Plomb, and others.
