I've got a pretty crapped out Ni-MH dust buster right now so i'm in the market for a new one. I just wanted to check with you GJ'ers on what your currently using in your home/shops?

Last night i was at Target with the GF and i was shocked to see that only one Black and Decker vacuum had LI-Ion batteries

Dyson... they are awesome.
Had the handheld small unit for years now and its never missed a beat, gets used at least 3 times a day.
The wall bracket wass an optional extra but is essential, it might come with it now though.

I have a dyson regular vac for the house and I love it. Bought it refurb'd and it's been through my wife (who would rather clean quick than gently) using it for over 5 years.

Haven't used their battery powered anything but they do not sell a product they don't think is any good. Even if it's not amazing like they say I bet it's one step down from amazing.

I have the Ryobi 18v and with 2 slim (2 Ah I think) batteries its a great little tool. Don't use it in the shop or garage but it gets used in the kitchen maybe as much as daily.

I hate Dyson. Over rated over priced. I have owned a few and I am done with them. We have a Hoover hand vac and it has significantly more suction and charge life than our two Dysons.

This. Dyson spends a lot on marketing which is nothing more than a guy in a suit w a Brit accent to tell you how he's solved a problem you never knew existed.

Do a little reading of actual scientific studies done comparing vacuums, not just people's opinions who want to justify spending that kind of money. It's all advertising - they are the "Apple" (iPhone, iPad, Mac, etc) of the vacuum industry. Sadly this is becoming more and more popular - convince people they are buying a lifestyle and then sell them an inferior product at a superior price.

At work and at home I use the Makita cordless vacuum. Uses my 18v batteries and really provides good service. Its not a bad deal as a bare tool if you already have that line of battery powered equipment.

I have a regular Dyson vacuum and will probably not buy another one when the time comes.

I did not see a M12 vacuum though. Might be interested in that.

I would agree, except my GF wanted a bose wireless speaker for her iPhone and I tried to get her to go with another brand. Well after she got it I will have to admit it is hands down the best small speaker I have ever heard. I have a couple from Jambox and the little bose creates better base than the "big" Jambox. I was slightly impressed and a little bit jealous all at once.

That being said it was twice the price.

I would say go with whatever cordless system you have, I have the following...

Use my old Milwaukee V18 batteries (also uses M18). Got it as tool only a couple of years ago for $75

Got this Ryobi, works very well. Worth getting even if you do not have other One+ tools.

And I have this with my Makita LXT system.

Very satisfied with all of these, I would never go the B&D route when I have the battery systems for these.

I have the Makita one. Bought it because our household hand vac was toast. I like the fact that it's made by a true tool company using tool batteries. It works well, better than any of the household ones that I have used. Only gripe is the filter gets full of stuff quick. Have wipe the screen that goes over the filter off with my hand frequently. Also blow out the paper filter with compressed air to clean it.

I have thought about getting the m12 because that is the system i am invested in but would be double buying at this point. Kind of curious how the m12 will compare to the Makita 18v. I still wish milwaukee would do an m12 squared. Make a few tools, like the vac that runs of 24v and uses 2 of the m12 batteries.

It us not a leaf blower. There is no need for two 12 volt batteries in a hand vac that would be far too heavy and overkill for the little clean up chores a hand vac is used for. BTW, dustbuster is a B&D trademark.

I have 3 of these at home and they're great for the non-shop vac sized items.

They run 20-25mns straight before needing a charge.

Relatively easy to clean as well, including filter replacement.

I have that same Black and Decker Pivot for over a year now. It works well. The hinge broke on the canister and Black and Decker sent me a new one within a week. I've never used it long enough to run the battery down completely but easily get 10-15 minutes.

The airline cleaning crews have Makitas, I've seen them in use. They lead a hard life I'm sure, so good enough for them, probably good enough for you. In fact, I think I'll go get one myself.

I have a cordless dyson and their biggest, corded vac, and i hate both with a passion.

The cordless is very loud, the carpet brush sucked so bad that i pulled out the roller and threw it away, and it regularly shuts off on me.

The corded one ***** itself to the floor so hard that my wife can't use it and i can only get it to work well on the highest carpet setting.

I will never buy another.

My next vac will likely be a Miele

I have this jobby right here for home use, it is great, strong, easy to use, good battery, and charging platform is nice.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006LXOJC0/?tag=atomicindus08-20

they go on nice sale from time to time at amazon too.

Bought one of these after my first pivot died.

It's louder than my pivot and the soft filter is a mess to clean compared to the pivot's hard canister filter.

We passed it along to a family member and ordered more pivots as a result.

However, the suction was comparable- both are great at their actual job, the maintenance on this one was just more work.
