Been doing some research, looking for an auto on switch for dust vac to miter saw. Found a couple to choose from.

Problem i am having, miter saw 15 amps, dust vac, 10. The switches are rated for 15, found one which supports 20 amps.

Is the amperage rating for these tools at the startup? Im assuming this is the case because I have started shop vac, let run, then while its on, started and cut with miter saw, on the same breaker and outlet.

I'll repost my recent thoughts made on a similar thread here seeing as it's regarding the same thing...

I will say this though. I have an automated vacuum switch I bought a decade ago for my router table and I love it, but for a tool like a miter saw that's a lot of really short on-off cycling of the switch and the vac, and neither are really made for that. I've seen a lot of complaints of failures of an auto switch when used like that. They are really designed to be used with tools like a table saw, band saw, thickness planer, router table, etc than they are for something like a miter saw that will only run for a few seconds at a time.

It would also be awkward to use on a miter saw because you would need to pull the trigger on the saw and hold it a few seconds for the auto switch to turn the vac on and it get up to speed before making your cut. That would just plain drive me crazy.

I would suggest that a remote switch for the vac may be more practical and reliable in the long run.

It would also resolve your amps dilemma.

Thanks for your thoughts, the on/off cycling makes sense. I did see a remote and a foot pedal option, sounds like those will be the better option.

Or pony up for a festool vac, I've got one that lives on my chopsaw, works great, switches seem to last forever even on chopsaws

I have a separate remote for my central dust collection system and blast gates at each tool. Router table, miter saw, table saw, band saw, spindle sander, jointer and drill press. One button on the remote turns on and off and opening and closing you blast gates takes no time at all. Usually have a couple open at the same time with no problems.

A lot less $$$$ than trying to have a separate switch at each tool.

These work really well. I had both my miter saws set up with these to shop vacs in my door shop. The vacuum turns on instantly and runs for five to ten seconds after you let the miter switch go to clean out the hose. On mine the delay was adjustable.
I couldn't run my shop central system to where the saws were , so this was s great alternative. 3 years with no issues.

They have those units at woodcraft. You plug 2-15 amp extension cords into it so It has one circuit for the vacuum and one circuit for your miter saw works really well. When I find the model I'll post it up
