Dust collection

I wondered if anyone had suggestions for something that could be used to **** dust, etc generated from sanding cars in the garage. The stuff gets everywhere and I've got to believe something exists to help. I'm picturing some kind of dust filtration that can draw from the entire room. Thanks.

There was a good thread on this but I can't seem to find it right now.

I've been eyeing one of these bad boys to help keep the dust down in my garage... http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=45378

On one of my other woodworking forums, there are lots of guys that swear by that thing and the price can not be beat.. However, their dustbags arent great but you can upgrade to a Jet or other brand for not a lot of bucks.. I have been thinking of getting one too..

It appears that you can hook this to saws and planers, etc., but what if you just wanted something to grab dust from the air (in the room)? Do you think this will do it?

The dust collection systems suggested above are mainly designed to connect up to saws, planers, etc. through ducts. If you're using a power sander you may be able to hook it up to one using a flexible hose.

You can also get a shop air cleaner, which is a box that hangs from the ceiling that contains a recirculating fan with a filtering system. Grizzly is one company that makes them, and if you do some searching around I think I've seen plans for building one at home.

Here's the link to Grizzly: Link to Grizzly air cleaner

I agree. I have a Delta Air Cleaner (Model 50-868, 3-speed, remote control) hanging right above my garage door track. Bought it from Amazon.com.

perfect. How's it work and where did you buy it?

It plugs into an electrical outlet on the ceiling, has a rectangular filter that covers the entire opening of the front (intake) end, the side not visible in the photo. It has three different speeds, and is operated via remote control.

I bought it at Amazon.com. It is similar to the one in the following link, but was a little less expensive...
