I work for Axis - we are coming out with adapters that will allow IP and POE over coax.

Your images look good. I work with really high end cameras so I am a bit biased. When you start getting up into the high end cameras - the images are unbelievable.

How will they address RS485 PTZ control via SDI coax? As I have seen other companies resolve this matter in a not so common method.

Coax will just be for IP - You will still need data pairs if you are controlling anolog camera to an encoder for rs485 ptz control

Now, regardless of what many people think . . . A PTZ camera is the most effective tool and method to capture images that are outside of a fixed camera system.

All of the latest PTZ camera's can be programmed to zoom in and record pre set zones / areas of concern. This does not require any human intervention on the part of the user. Many people continue to chirp on about

*This needs a person to operate*

No, it does not . . .

Now, keep in mind this (PTZ) is NOT a solve all . . . Its stated goal is compliment and enhance the existing 360 degree perimeter or area of concern! It does not mean you will simply replace 5, 6, 12 cameras with a PTZ!

I'll have to disagree here a bit. In 15 years of installing/ servicing / designing CCTV systems and other security ...blah blah blah...you get it...

PTZ's are always looking where the incident DIDN'T happen. In a commercial environment, I can install 2 to 3 decent quality well placed cameras and get the needed shot(s). PTZ are nice to play with and look in neighbors windows (joking) but really only have value when being controlled and monitored by someone with a heartbeat. Autotracking does not work well and can be easily be defeated with two people or other methods.

My suggestion would be to add more fixed cameras before adding a PTZ in a residential environment UNLESS the location calls for the viewing of things at a distance. Even then, then you should still treat a PTZ as a fixed camera and have it return to a preset or home position after a preset time.

If you are going IP you shouldn't need the 485 signal anymore as the controls are now over IP also. Also, you could also install a single channel encoder at the camera end and use the serial output on the encoder. You would probebly need power though. Really if you think about it, if you are removing and analog PTZ and installing an IP one, there will be power already there in some form.

I deal with protocols and packets all day. I think simple is the best route for home.

You guys are so far beyond what common person will even comprehend.

It's a slippery slope. Once minute you're installing a $500 costco system. The next minute you're installing $500 to $1000 IP cameras. It wouldn't be the first time it's happened...

Right, my goal is to stop dogs from crapping in my yard and my neighbors behind me from stealing my landscaping.

Spending more than a grand on the camera system seems like a little bit of a waste when I could be spending the extra money on one of these...

Its all relative for most folks. One of the things you will notice in time is that your needs will grow. This comes about when an event occurs and you say to yourself.

Why didn't the camera catch that event? Why can't I make out that person, object, license plate, etc. Why can't I see the details at this *** distance.

All of this will come into play at one point in time. For now, I am sure you will be pleased with your current set up. It will allow you to have first hand knowledge of what this device can do, and the limits of such.

For most this ends up being a side hobby as time progress's. While others are always teetering on the fence of good, better, best. Good luck on the dog crapper guy and light it up on his steps when you do! :D

I call shot gun for any used Axis M5014, 215, P5534-E PTZ!

Veracity already makes a POE and IP over coax solution. They are called Highwire Power star...if anyone needs one....

http://www.veracityglobal.com/products/ethernet-over-coax/highwire-powerstar.aspx

BTW...You wouldn't happen to have any extra Megapixel outdoor domes you are looking to get rid of would you? Cheap....

Actually they will be oem'd from veracity - they will be axis labeled

Those do look good - don't they :)

Well, here is an update on the camera install.

I have 2 done. They overlap about 4 feet or so. I have the front and side yard covered.

Next is to setup the camera on the back yard and on the driveway directly.

Then I will only have 4 more to go!

It always takes longer to do these projects than I think it will. ;)

Looks good. I just installed my system yesterday, I have 4 cameras up but still have quite a few more to go. I thought my last house was difficult to wire, my current house is near impossible. I actually considered having it re-roofed just so I could access the corners from above.

Anyone have a good viewing software for a Blackberry Bold? Both of the ones I've tried don't work, Asee and Meye.

Well, if there isn't a crackberry app, I don't think there will be one.

They got out of the consumer market all together.

You may want to look at Dlink's DCS-5300G wireless network camera. I have several of these indoors.
