Dwarfs KR1000.

When I got my KR1000, some years ago, I figured it was huge.
Today, I shoved my latest toy, a Lista box near it so I could test fit some tools from my Matco box (obscured by the Lista). My wife saw this and immediately got her camera then had made me pose the two latest boxes, the Lista and a Harley KRL777.
The tiny box in the background is a 40 inch SnapOn/Blue Point tower. Looks like a kids toy.

The Lista needs a good cleaning and I'm thinking of buffing it out. But man, does it hold a lot.

My wife says I can't do what I want with it.

Which is to paint it with Raptor bed liner, and paint a name on it. I wanted Dominator or perhaps Intimidator.

She says if I do, I can get my own darn tools.

The best thing Lista boxes have going for them is the low used price. This is partly because the "brand effect" from Snap-On is strong. Telling people that Listas are good is not going to help that situation....

Oh, that. I sold my Ranchero after finishing the restore, got bored on the Chevy, so I'm playing with a 65 Falcon. Just a 4 door, but it is a Military vehicle bought for the Marine base in 65, sold surplus in 69, owned by the same local family till I got it. They were restoring it, dropped a boat load of money in the motor and ******, then lost interest.
I'm debating re-shooting it Olive drab and putting it back in military trim.

I've already welded up the four tiny rust spots, all just patch panel work.
It runs great, is mostly original. However, the car has been sitting since 95-97, and the brakes are now leaking. Put a master on it, now going to replace all four wheel cylinders.
Unless I get bored...
Maybe finish it this spring, the Lord willing and the creek don't rise...

Rusted out 30 inch wide Stanley Vidmars are selling for 850 locally, with crunchy drawers, dings and about 50% paint left. Lista's a bit more.
I got a good deal on this one, but the guy was very unhappy when we picked it up. I paid him a deposit ten minutes after he posted his ad. Then he got the other dozen phone calls... Ad was only online for about thirty minutes.
Just missed another shorter wide one last week by half an hour so this one I was quick to nab.
He's 200 miles from home, 12 hours after he posted the ad, it was in my shop.

OK, cheap is relative. I think you would agree that they are a better value for professional tool storage then used Snap-Ons, etc.

By the way, I did some checking:
The last DW new drawers I bought (2+ years ago now) I paid about $250 each for 100s and 125s. With new "American money printing program" this number may go North of $300 now...

Get it back to the shop as quick as you can!

Ha! I showed up one time to pick up a vise based on CL posting from a nice older (retired) machinist who has sold a lot of stuff around here in the last year. A another guy was getting out of his truck and he kind of gave me the 'evil eye'. He walked up to the seller (on his porch at the time) and told him that he was just on the phone and here to pick it up.

Truth is seller made a deal with me on phone. Second guy calls after. Seller tells him its been sold and the buyer (me) in on the way to pick it up. This guy rolled over anyway to try and Bogart my vise. Luckily I had told the seller my name, what I looked like and what I would be driving. I figure he knew the address from other deals with the seller. But if I had missed a red light that fellow would have MY Morgan vise now.

Wow...what a ***** that guy must have been. If the guy had been successful with his lie and walked away with it and you had caught him, I think some bodily harm may have been on the menu.

Did those prices include the side slides and the cradle? Or is that just drawer?
I'm hoping to find someone who wants a 7 or a 7 and a 5 to swap for smaller.
Although, I may just watch the ads and buy another box with those sizes.

As to them being a better value, yeah, you betcha.

I have a lot of toolboxes. Storage bang for buck, no comparison.


Do need to get a duplicate key. Only came with one key. Hoping my local locksmith has blanks, but will have to wait till he's back from Christmas break.

Yeah, I've had them change their mind while I was in transit.
Most common thing, you call them, make the deal on the phone, get behind the wheel and drive. Pull up as they sell the item. Happens a lot.
This time, I got the guy to agree to a PayPal deposit. I would not drive my truck 400 miles on a maybe. Too many times I've been snipped while driving.


The wife, who helped me load and unload it, loves the big box.

I fully loaded one drawer with sockets, everything from the top drawer of my 4725. About 200 lbs, I think.
She opens it with one hand.
The Matco, with four brand new slides, was super smooth as well, but needs more force.
She wants less drawers, more in each drawer because she can't remember where everything is, bless her heart.
I don't always myself, to tell the truth.

And that doesn't show the KRA2106, or four smaller boxes on the South wall.
You see why she wants to narrow number of drawers.

Yeah, the KR1000 and the KR1100 on top of it are keepers, no matter what.
Old, but perfect. Love them. SnapOn sent me all new slides for the KR1100 a few years ago, but the 1000 still has all the original slides. They work great, even though the box was made in 1986!

Yes, and no, on the lift.
The little HF electric lifts have the power they claim. I have an 880 and an 1100. Both will pull more than rated with ease.

However;
The picture showing the red lift is from months ago, while the other pictures are from yesterday. Since this picture I moved the 880 lb power winch to the regular garage and replaced it with an 1100 pound winch.

However, more importantly, I made a removable frame to reinforce the lift.
I was very worried about the joists handling load. It was spread across three rafters and I never planned on lifting more than a 375 V6, and even that only just into my pickup.
Then I accidentally brought the 100 lb engine stand along with it.

Since my shop is 28 long, and 24 deep, well, that's too much span to be loading like that.
No damage was done by yanking up 475 lbs, but I just wasn't going to risk that again.


I put a 10 foot 1.5 inch black iron pipe across 5 rafters, then fabricated removable 'feet' for each end.
When installed the feet lift the pipe till either just a small weight, or even zero weight is on the rafters, depending on how I adjust it.

I will get my wife to take a few shots of it, not impressive, but cheap and strong. About 50 bucks invested in the frame. Looks ungainly but is very quick and easy to assemble, then store the extra legs outside my shop.


I still limit the lifts to less than 500 lbs.

I prefer to offload onto a sheet of plywood on my Rotary lift, then just lower the lift, then roll the whatever onto the floor, when I can.

Or I use my pipe frame lift (2 inch pipe) outside on one of the concrete pads.

I'm old, I don't lift anything I can power lift.
