I am going to purchase a dynabrade 21035. It is a 3/16 orbit palm finishing sander. My question is that most of the ones I found are $160+, but one is on amazon for $128. It does appear to have different color body and pad than the others but I was wondering if you guys see any difference. I couldn't find any difference in specs. Or is this just a lucky break to save 50-80 dollars?

The one for 128

And what appears to be the same thing for 170

Thanks

How do you figure saving 50-80 dollars?

170 - 128 = 42...

Because I have seen them up to 210 an in between. Sorry for my approximations. 41.99 - 82 dollars savings.

I just meant to get the point across that the one item is offered significantly cheaper than the others I have seen. I didn't know if there was something I am missed.

The cheaper one is sold and shipped by Amazon, while the more expensive one is sold and shipped by KustomPainting and it is not unusual to see Amazon do some weird things with pricing. If they are both the same part number then they are the same. They are both red. The KustomPainting one appears to have a blue paddle handle, but this may actually be a protective plastic peel off on the chrome handle that was not removed for the pic.

Below are the specs from the Dynabrade web site. Sorry, cannot link to the page, its java or something and the link would only take you to the whole catalog.

*************

21035
6" (152 mm) Dia. Non-Vacuum Dynorbital-Spirit Random Orbital Sander
.25 hp, 12,000 RPM, 3/16" (5 mm) Dia. Orbit, Rear Exhaust

Includes low profile, premium urethane weight-mated sanding pad. Optional vacuum conversion kits are available to easily convert non-vacuum tool to self-generated vacuum tool or central vacuum tool. Grey lever identifies 3/16" (5 mm) dia. orbit, used for general sanding.
Drop-In Motor available (sold separately) to reduce costly down-time associated with routine maintenance. More Power - True 12,000 RPM air motor. Floating rotor utilizes five blades, producing more usable power (.25 hp/186 W). High-strength, composite rotor has better lubricating qualities, allowing blades to last longer. Less air (2CFM/14 SCFM/396 LPM) is used more efficiently to maintain maximum power.
Comfort Platform provides additional hand and wrist support, further enhancing operator comfort. Also offers increased protection against cold air exhaust. (NOTE: Comfort Platform is removable.) Order 59330 Comfort Platform separately, to install on existing tools!
Throttle lever recesses into housing grip when depressed, eliminating pressure-point on operator's palm. Dynorbital-Spirit lever is made from composite material to insulate against cold air. Lever is color-coded to designate tool orbit. Easy maintenance and vacuum conversion. Muffler elements are easily changed for convenient maintenance. Low Sound Levels. Muffling system reduces exhaust sound levels.
Speed Control allows thumb-control regulating of tool speed. Lighter air-motor assembly, ideal for vertical and overhead sanding applications. Precision one-piece motor shaft and counterbalance. High-quality Double Row Pad Bearing, protected by unique V-Seal, improves bearing life and ensures reduced vibration. Perfectly-balanced, weight-mated sanding pad with one-piece hub design. Dynabrade premium urethane pads offer smoother operating performance and minimal vibration.

Hutchins has joined the private label business. I recently purchased a 6" DA built by Hutchuns, sold by Smart auto body products. They have a Black molded plastic housing with Yellow Smart decals. The same unit is being sold by others in a Red/White/Blue color combo. I provided this info, because I'm sure there are multiple levels of quality produced by these companies, sold in different venues.

I see. That is very good info to know. Hutchins was high on my list when considering this purchase. I know they make top quality products, and it's good to know that there might be different levels of quality floating around. I hope this is exactly the same thing I would be getting if I went through another seller.

I suppose it's the same as Danaher producing several grades of wrenches, sockets etc and selling them under multiple names or GM when they had gozillions of name plates. It's just business.

That's true. This particular case it does have the name Dynabrade on it and I can't find any different specs. Do you have any reason to believe that this one might be a victim of lesser quality?

I bought a Dynabrade DA model 69025 about two years ago and love it! I was seeing the same issue with different pictures of it from different sellers and just chaulked it up to last years model vs this years model. As long as the model #'s are the same there shouldn't be any question in regards to levels of quality. BTW, I was seeing about a $50 range for the same model as well, so I went with the cheapest price from a Dynabrade dealer on Ebay.

Dynabrade has three "lines", that are sold in different colors.
Their "industrial" line is the red. That's a good sander.
They have two "automotive" lines of sanders. The "Spirit" is teal colored, and uses a composite body. That's the economy model.
The "Supreme" is grey and black, and is all metal inside. That's the one you see for the big bucks.

If you're just comparing price on two different Dynabrade sanders that are both red, then unless there's some feature such as the self generated vacuum that adds a few bucks, they're both the same.

Older Dynabrades had a rounder shaped head, and were 10,000 RPM. Newer ones have the flat spots making the head a little more diamond shaped, and are 12,000 RPM. I have both, and it is not easy to tell the difference.

Both Amazon links you posted appear to have the same body shape, but the cheaper one looks like it has the "comfort platform". That looks like a pretty good deal on a new sander to me.

Did the price just go up $40 overnight? I have been keeping an eye on this item for 3 months and it stayed steady at $128 and all of the sudden today I see the lowest one is $169.
