Im planning on getting either an air or electric Dynabrade file sander and was wondering what peoples opinion were on the benefits of either. I have a large air compressor so thats not an issue. Im leaning on a Dynabrade electric model number 40610 for around 350 dollars. Price is not really an issue and I can go higher if suggestions on here warrant it. I will be using it on metal and lathe work and like the 3/4 -18 belts. any suggestions on here would be appreciated. I want quality

I have an electric 40610 and a pneumatic 40320. They both do a good job but the pneumatic is a little more powerful. I got the electric for those times when I did not have an air supply close to the work.

i own a pneumatic dynabrade 14000, slightly larger size and i absolutely love it. i have used the 40320 ricleh mentioned in the post above mine and it is also a great tool. you have the compressor, go pneumatic.

I have an electric dyna brade which works well but compared to a pneumatic it is cumbersome. Electric is convenient when compressed air is not available. Buy a name brand, the cheap imitations are a headache.

The best deal is ASTRO with respect to air files. The Dynabrade name is apparently worth 3X the price and I'm pretty certain they get their air file specific parts from Taiwan just as ASTRO does. They might use a Dynabrade produced motor but the belt system is pretty universal and almost everybody gets these parts from the same source in Taiwan. On the electric side the Dynabrade probably is comparable to anybody's as electric versions are a lot less common. I too am eagerly awaiting the Milwaukee cordless as they're going to sell a million of these to the autobody market. For what you say that you want to do this might be the way to go: https://www.astrotools.com/product/tube-weld-belt-finish-sander-3-4-x-20-5-with-belts/ if you don't need the ability to sand around pipes this is another alternative: https://www.astrotools.com/product/air-belt-sander-3-4-x-20-5-with-2-belts-80-100/

Typically, 3/4" belts are 20 1/2" and not 18". The 1/2" belts are 18"

I bought electric because we do enough portable work we couldn't garuantee compressed air at our jobsites. We use it for a lot of handrailing work and we do a fair amount of fitting and welding on site. The band file is the primary tool for roughing off weld beads for the tube sander to finish out.

The air ones are nice if you have air, but IMO the versatility of electric was more important.
