I'm failing to see the rip off. Yes there's cheaper on ebay but those things are expensive new. So what if the seller bought them for less and then tries to make a profit on ebay. The seller already sold 4 of them???

I don't see the ripoff, either. So, if I buy a car for 500 and sell it for 1000, I'm a ripoff? The whole point of ebay is to make money...

I think the least he could do is remove the tag for $175. By me those threaders don't sell for more than $40-100 and there are quite a few of them for sale.

I am wrong, rip off was an inappropriate phrase to use. But I still say asking $240 when you still have the $175 price tag on the item is cheeky.

People choose to pay his asking price. They're not forced to, and if he's already sold several, others are obviously quite happy with the original price tag being visible.

Maybe you should be buying them up and putting them on ebay for $240 then.

The rip off was when I bought a sand blaster 14 years ago for $175 and it was delivered free straight from Harbor Freight. yep, it was their $99 pressure pot blaster. This was before I knew HF existed.
Do I blame the seller for ripping me off? Nope. I was the DA that didn't do enough searching the internet before I clicked on "Buy it Now" I chalked that one up as a $76 lesson that has saved me thousands in the past 14 years.

"Rip-Off" is a subjective term most times and will vary even with the same person depending on their perspective of "want" from the buyer versus what the seller is willing to sell for.

Unless you are a little communist/socialist, it is never the sellers responsibility to sell at the expectations of a buyer and for the buyer to know ahead of time what the value is worth to them. In short, it is the sellers property until sold and transferred and the sellers right to ask whatever he wants. Buyers being miffed because an items is over average market pricing is inconsequential.

After all the selling fees he nets about $50 or so.

What's the problem?

When I was sitting on Grandpa's knee as a little kid he said, "Boy, you need to remember a couple things thruout life. One of them was buy low sell high".

Not even. 10% ebay, 3% paypal. Somewhere around $30-$35.

It's a high price, but it's not a ripoff or a scam. The seller clearly states what his asking price is on the listing. No bait and switch unless the buyer is too clueless to pay attention, and that would be on the buyer not the seller.

I agree with the OP about the seller being an idiot for not removing or covering the price on the tag. I see this all the time on eBay and CL. I still haven't figured out if the sellers are lazy or just clueless. :dunno:

FWIW, the listing states "Seller Refurbished", so giving the benefit of doubt, he's done something to make sure they're in working order (improved their condition from what they were received in, and verified functionality).

$65 minus eBay's fees (assuming he paid the $175 on the tag), he's not making massive profits here.

Shipping seems fair as well.

It says the item is seller refurnished. So to me that means he bought one in less than desirable condition for 175.00, refurbished it, which takes time, money and supplies, and then he is selling it for 240.00. That seems fair to me.

I sell on Ebay and the first thing I would have done is replace that tag. I would almost bet this seller is getting a bunch of stupid email offers for the $ 175.00.

If you look at the sold history he previously sold two at $175 each so im guessing that is his tag on it at a store he owns.

He wont sell them anyways. Theres a ton of those on ebay, and they can be found for less then $100 shipped. Hes just wasting his time, and Ebay's memory storage.

Hate to break it to you but there's only a few less than $100 shipped on there and those look to be beat to ****. It seems that most of them that look newer are listed between $150 to $200 shipped.

I would be more inclined to buy one from this guy if he explained what he did that classifies them as seller referbished. Maybe he bought them at the flea market and threw a coat of paint and put a new set of dies in them or maybe it was just a coat of paint? Those dies aren't cheap either.

So why don't you snag them up and sell them? He had 3 watchers on it.

Yes. I'd know he was flipping it. He was at the right place at the right time to make a deal for himself. If I had been there I would've made the same deal. If I saw the tag I'd try to get some money off since I now know what his bottom line is, but I would in no way consider it a rip-off....

Again, I already said I used a poor choice of words so lets leave it at that. Everybody is different I would most likely walk away form a seller who left a price on an item and then told me that he wanted more unless it was a screaming deal, buts thats me.

I am not sure it's a rip off, but he could have removed the price tag. That's the bigger head so there's some money there, but I have seen them cheaper.

Being "ripped off" is when the seller posts a listing with generic stock photo stolen from Google Image, charges you $240 plus shipping and sends you the said item with a $175 sticker on it.

This is no different than your local Wal*Mart. They buy something for price X and mark it up to you at price Y. The only difference here is you know what price X is. Reselling is the name of most businesses game.

There is a seller on my local CL who has a very broad definition of what constitutes "new."

For example, this Porter Cable Belt Sander for $180.

The sticker clearly shows $160.30, the item is covered in sawdust, the sticker on the side is peeling, and there is visible rust on some parts. Even if it was a "display" model, it still looks pretty knackered. For the record, I have the same belt sander. I paid $140 for it this time last year, sealed in the original packaging. I've used it quite a bit, indoors and outdoors; there's no rust on mine, so how did it get on this "new" belt sander? :headscrat
