Re: E-tek Resto's 56 Chevy Truck

If you've checked in at the blog, you'll see it's starting to look like a truck again and we're getting close to firing it up. Lots of little things to do yet though!

Of course sometimes other jobs get in the way....Some people just don't get it when I say: "At least when I have to take a load to the dump I get to use an even OLDER truck!"

Excelent job! It looks great. I always liked old pick ups but this build is the first that made me want one.

Anyone else hear the Sanford and Sons theme song? Chili's real name Lisbeth, by the way?

Ps- like the striping on the old truck. Not to be rude, but what does something like that go for?

Oddly, they aren't worth that much. There are still quite a few around. Round here you can buy a 40's or 50's Ford truck, complete, maybe running, for $2-3K. I bought this one from a freinds estate. He lived across the street and I helped him restore the drive trian and brakes before he passed away (he was 84). His kids knew I loved it and sold it to me for $2K. It thought it was fair, plus it has sentimental value.

Why aren't you composting your leaves?

If you have as many leaves as us, you wouldn't ask silly questions!:wtf::thumbup:

I hope the boys got a chance to jump into that pile of leaves before you bagged them; one of those fond childhood memories.

Re: E-tek Resto's 56 Chevy Truck

Etec I think what Lamonte was asking was what did the lettering on the doors set you back not the truck itself :D.

Rick

Oh - sorry!

The lettering was cheap too! About $110 I recall. I had asked them to do it in a patina/faded-out style but they didn't seem to understand.:headscrat They thinned out the paint, but it's the same all the way around. I would have liked some of it to be really faded/missing....which I learned how to do from one of the great garbage can artists here on GJ....
................................as usual, shoulda done it MYSELF!!

Thanks rick- that was my gist. Thanks for what you do, etek-Now that I have my life back, it's inspiring me to get off my dead *** and work on the resto of my dad's truck. Oddly, with the realities of my new gig, I think it may help. Just gotta move. Thanks again.

Re: E-tek Resto's 56 Chevy Truck

'55 - '56 Chevy Trucks have been on my favorite list for a while. I know of a seemingly decent one in a field up by our cottage... and then I see E-tek doing this project and the results - has really got me interested in finding the owner of that field and taking a closer look-see. I took a picture a few days ago - there is also an old Ford too -that doesn't interest me so much.

That " old ford " :D looks like a 63 if the grill is the original and also looks like a unibody ( the cab and bed are one piece ) much like an el camino or ranchero . I am a huge unibody fan and currently own 2 of them .

Re: E-tek Resto's 56 Chevy Truck

OH....you were talking about the truck, right? haha!

I have been warming her up (pun intended!) for a photo-shoot. Like any woman, she's getting self-conscious about her age, plus she's extremely busy, career and family-wise to be thinking about the "frivolities of life".

As for the 56 Chev, this week should be a doozy! After spending a LOT of time on stuff you can't see (electrical moslty), I'm about ready to install the doors, the bed wood is beautifully coated and the fenders are here. As well, F&R glass will go in Friday. Should look like a complete truck by next weekend!
Thanks to all for watching the blog and if it's not too much to ask (!), click on the Eastwood Ad on my website too!

This sir, is a tremendous build! There is something about an old chevy truck....

Pardon me asking, but what do you do for a living?...you seem to have a wealth of knowledge in metalwork and body work. I'm a mechanic myself, so bodywork is for the OTHER pro car guys ;)

E-Tek - anxiously awaiting the final chapter on the truck. Please include a picture of you handing back the keys to the owner; a proud moment for all concerned!

Just a thought business-wise, do you think an 'E-TekRestorations' key fob, dash plate, or window sticker would be proudly displayed by your customers? Personally, I would welcome such advertizing on a vehicle of mine given so much care and attention.

In regard to pics of Mrs. E-Tek, please tell her from us GJ'ers that the "frivolities of life" are what make living fun and worthwhile; please indulge our collective peccadiloes. I'm still hoping to see a pic of her smiling wildly while pulling a 4-wheel (snow) drift in her Mini! These are the things memories of made of; and when we are all old and decrepit, hopefully, these memories will still be part of what makes us - us!:3gears:

Re: E-tek Resto's 56 Chevy Truck

Here's a peak of where we're at this week. Tomorrow the rear fenders will go on, along with the box steps. The bed wood will be secured as well and if time, we may even run it up to break-in! For more - check the blog!

looks great! I like how you take the extra time to make sure everything is protected while you are working on the truck. So many builders dont do this and you just know there are a few scratches here and there that you cant see in the pics!

If steps aren't taken to minimize them you'd be touching up (or respraying) the entire truck by the end! Still, with all the moving of parts and fitting them, you're bound to get a couple. So far there's only two tiny knicks which I'll be able to touch up and wet-sand out.

Looks like you'll be rolling it out this weekend! What's next on the list, the Datsun?

I'm going to take a bit of a break between paying gigs to get some work done on the Galaxie (torque boxes, headers and new dual exhaust) and then, yes, the Dastun (floors, rails and quarters). Also have a couple engines on the rebuild list (46 Flathead for the Merc and a 390FE for the rod). Not sure how much of all that I'll get done though, as I have a 68 Cougar coming in January 1st!

Gorgeous!

But as a tiny matter of taste, I think I would have preferred a flat finish on those wood inlays in the bed.

I bet that would look good too. When you bring your vehicle in for a $30K resto, we can definitely go that route!:bounce:

Re: E-tek Resto's 56 Chevy Truck

I don't have the vocabulary to describe how great this project has turned out and the good work you do. I did one restoration and will not do another. To me investing this much time and work I would have to bring it into the modern world. I understand your goal was to return to stock and you have suceeded. Well done.
