You'll never believe this:
That 1964 Comet is BACK in my shop After shipping it back to the owner when we moved in 2020, I tried to help her find someone to finish it - but couldn't - so it sat (for 2 years!) - in a garage out west.
She contacted me a few months back to tell me her predicament and I couldn't just leave her 'stranded' (damned conscience!), so ended up making arrangements to get it shipped back to me.
I've started a thread about it on it on my YT channel, but thought I'd post up some pics here as well.

I really need do better at both. I've learned that although its easy to take video, its hard to make GOOD videos!
I'm also starting to update my blog. Along with doing the actual work that gets posted, there's a lot to it.

I completely understand, I have aYT channel and taking videos and making good videos are two different things. Are you getting ready to retire?

Been 'sorta of retired' a couple years, was gonna totally give up my'real' job this month but they asked me to stay for a bit longer. I'll keep trying!

I had a second job when I was saving to buy my first house. My plan was to quit after I had saved what I needed for my down payment and closing costs. Every time I went to quit they kept giving me a raise. I ended up working there 2 years past my original time to quit. Crazy!

This week I finally got parts for the COMET....beltline mouldings (cats whiskers)




and clips for ALL the side mouldings


....then my JD 317 crapped out -



and the snow KEEPS COMING! lol

I think every time it snows my old tractor decides to **** out. I keep telling myself that is when I know to go in and warm up for an hour or two fixing it. Hopefully it's nothing serious and you can get it back running and take care of the snow. We were supposed to get 3-5 today, didn't get that much but it was wet and heavy.

Man those clips are getting crazy expensive. I needed 10 for an old ford truck. 4.50 each. I remember the first truck I did back in the 80’s and the clips were .25 each.

Built this 40 Ford some years back (not sure if old photo links are still working) and I see it's up for sale. Guess the owner had his fun and it's time for it's next caretaker. Held up well!

2026! I'm gonna start tis year by resurrecting my Shop Project thread, in honour of my NEW shop, getting it sorted, and getting back to some fun work in the shop. Hope you'll follow along and me your input. Been a while.

Recap - built a 24x36x10 shop last summer, oriented into 3 bays - 2 for cars, one for equipment. Doors are R13, got the walls insulated same, then ran out of time before I could ge the cieling insulated (R40). So this winter its pretty much a cold storage area, but I can at least get in when its warmer, say -10C and above...

Last week it was that temp on two days, so I spent both days out there.

Fisrt off was installing a Diesel Heater. Heard so much good and bad thought Id try one - just to take the edge off when Im out there this year. It'll go into the motorhome once the shop has proper heat (forced NG heat or Mini split).



Shop was minus 8C When I started it up...


Pumps out some good heat but not all that far. This is pointed right at the outlet:


Then I went and dug out the snow tires (never too late!) and got them on the truck: The shed will be clad in steel siding next spring.


The MaxJax Lift is already being awesome but I think I'll move it to the center stall to have more working room on the sides. I poured pads in both stalls s I could move it.


By the time the little Diesel Heater warmed the front area of the truck enough to take off a layer I was done. Opening the door cools it off so much that it cant keep up. Its not like a big forced air unit when the shop is aleady warm. Looking forward to next year already! Trying to decide whether to go Mini Split or Forced air. Throughts?

Congrats on the new shop, I'm sure it is nice to have a new space to make your own. I think I'd go mini-split, I presume they are less efficient, but will get the job done and are way cheaper than a forced air unit.

Hey, welcome back! It’s good to see you and your work. I know you guys see a lot of very low temps. Some (I’ve got a Mitsubishi with “Hyper Heat”) heat to -ambient temperatures. Ours does full rated heat to -14F do you have Natural Gas on the property?

Thanks and Yes we do, but its about 75' away from new shop. That, along with the prospect of cooling in the summer, makes me want to consider a heat pump.

Look into the low ambient optioned mini split systems. You may want to oversized slightly if your temps fall lower than they offer. I love mini splits, but they don’t have great filtration. Make it a point to clean the filters often.
