After several years of living in my shop, it was finally time to show the 2-car attached garage some LOVE. This weekend, the floor, next weekend - who knows!
The space had sunk to a new low. Even the lovely Mrs E-tek didn't want to park in there - although not enough to subject "Lizzie" to an outside berth!
First thing was to clear the floor in preperation for the floor prep:
There many applications of latex floor paint that had to be removed, so I rented a drum sander and went through a few 20G pads:
Here's the surface after sanding:
Once cleaned I was careful to protect it from car and dog excrement overnight:
To repair some cracks, I couldn't think of anything better than plastic body filler, which worked very well!
A couple hours later and VIOLA - new flooring! The product was Rustoleum's 2-part Garage Floor Epoxy Coat. I bought 2 kits at $70 a piece and used 1.5 kits. In retrospect, I should have only mixed half the second batch so I would have had some for a touch up down the road. However, I don't think it's shelf-life is all that long - when I opened one of the kits, the catalyst had partially crystalized.
All in all, I'm thrilled to have finally got 'er done and Mrs. E-tek is happy to have a garage worthy of her Mini Cooper (Lizzie).
