E-TORX Sockets

With “standard” Torx sockets, I recognize that some brands may have better fitment than others.

Does the same apply to E-Torx, or do the cheaper sockets work just fine?

By cheaper, do you mean something like Tekton or Capri, or amazon random letters brand?

I have been using Hazet and Snap-on for years, no issues. Bought some Koken recently and they have been great. If i was starting over, probably would buy only Koken due to lower cost.

I bought Craftsman. Probably NOT Made in the USA. I have not used them much but they work.

You'd have to tell us what you consider inexpensive along with what brand you're asking about.. I have a Toptul set that is really nice and offers wide coverage.

I think Capri, Vim, Gearwrench, would serve you well. Tekton might be a good choice except, I don't think they offer 1/4 drive e torx sockets.

There are some decent Amazon brands like ARES or ABN that are pretty well established with a consistent level of quality whereas, some of the alphabet Amazon brands are largely contract over runs with inconsistent quality levels.

I'm a fan of my Capri master torx set. I would say they do fit better than the random kobalt and duralast ones and about equal to the random tool truck ones I have but I have pretty limited sizing outside Capri to compare brands.

One of the smaller ones, E8 I think, got replaced with a Carlyle since I managed to lose it, I added an E10 Matco in 1/4 drive.

Fit doesnt appear any different then the 1/4 deep Matco E-torx sockets I have. More recently, I did pick up an Icon deep e-torx set and Snap-on extra shallow set, but have yet to use either.

Really!? I just did a 2" leveling kit on my 2023 F-150 on Saturday and used the Pittsburg Pro E-torques on the job with no issues. I have no problem recommending them.

I've had them strip screw heads out and had no trouble tossing them.

I don't buy the "cheaper sockets". I have a set of Unior 1/4" sockets (E4-E11) tried 1 size (that's the only etorx bolt I have) and it fits quite nicely with little to no play. I have the 1/2" set (E10-E24) on the way but nothing to test them on once they arrive. I'd rather have them and don't need them than need them and not have them.

What I can tell tho... I remember reading quite a few bad Amazon reviews on Vigor (Hazet's junk selling daughter company) sockets including having a lot of play. What they sell is the same no name junk you can get on Chinese sites like Aliexpress, so I think there should be quite the difference in manufacturing quality.

Quality aside - the big item I would look for is E10 in 1/4 drive. The E10's are always buried in dark/hard to access places in modern engine bays. I swear engineers do this on purpose.

The Grey Pneumatic 1/4" drive set (998ET) can be had for ~$20-$30 and has worked well for me. It includes E10 and E12 in 1/4" drive.
