E torx spanners

I am searching for a set of e torx spanners in the UK.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

They won’t be used that frequently so I don't see any point dropping big money on them unless it actually makes a huge difference in the quality.

Every set I seem to find misses an E16, which is pretty common. (Is there a reason for missing E16?)

I have looked at toptul, facom, stahlwille, none of these have an E16.

I have been offered a set of snap on which include E16, but at £140, I think it’s a bit much for something that won’t be used that often.

I was leaning towards the toptul, if I could find an E16.

Anyone any ideas?

I wanted to buy a set as well and want the Snap ons but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Six, twelve and/or spline actually work pretty good if you're careful placing them on solidly and keeping them square. Some SAE sizes fit better than metric but forgot which were which. I bought an OTC Master torx set that included the E-torx sockets and tore apart and rebuilt my wife's Mercedes using mostly sockets and a few twelve and six point wrenches for several hard to access bolts. I think I recently saw Snap on made a double box end with one side ratcheting for e-torx they were very expensive but are on my wish list. In reality I don't really need them lol...

I have a set of the koken sockets, and some Stahlwille 1/4 drive sockets in etorx, which seems to do well.

Interesting, I have never actually tried putting a normal spanner on them.

Did you come across an E16 while doing the rebuild job?

Don't recall but probably they were used extensively throughout. If you look closely at the cross section of an e-torx head it's just a simple hex with relief cuts. Six point wrenches fit best but I used many 12s no issues at all. As stated SAE fit better than metric on some of the fasteners.

E16 is not quite 15mm possibly 9/16 would be better.

I might be ok without them in that case.

Sockets are probably easier to use anyway, as a spanner would be more awkward to position on the bolt given the shape of the head.

Anyone else any suggestions?

I bought this vim set after running into a few places it was difficult to get a socket, if I remember correctly it was a chevy 1.4 thermostat housing. I've had good luck with vim tools. I dont know if it includes 16 but from the pic it looks like it. Not sure if you can get them over there or not.

I think it's a made up size to fill out sets and make them look better. Like E22, which i've also never seen.

It's why most sets skip it.

I don't have a Saab but this suggests that an E16 socket is required for the head bolts.

I was going to say that E-Torx are usually on the end of threaded studs in areas that are inaccessible by spanners. I would get sockets first.

Also, while the quality differences between standard open box wrenches can be notable, and closed box ends less so - I would say that for etorx wrenches the quality gets very blurred. Poor tolerances won't really make much of a difference. I'd get a cheap set, I doubt the Snap On is measureably better (unless someone comes up with a valid reason?).

Toptul is probably a great choice (cause the quality isn't bad in any case). The AAAE1622 is their E16xE22 size. I'd get all of their wrenches and they probably cover most of the usual sizes. Then just supplement the extras if you ever really need them...

Toptul does have an E16, as F-22 said. However, he mentioned the AAAE series spanners, which have Toptul’s “mirror” (not really) polish and are hard to find. You might have more luck finding the satin-finish AAEE series:

Motointegrator.de does not have all sizes of AAEE spanner but does have the E16:


You’d pay for Brexit on the import, I guess.

The KS-tools short/long/offset + sets, I once bought/ordered them for someone else.
