Hi guys,

I have a Craftsman 42 piece socket bit set. I bought it a while back, don't use it as much, but they seem OK, except for that terrible ratchet.

Anyway, the E14 socket looks like a defect to me. Not sure if it will fit a E14 bolt head correctly. I don't have a E14 fastener to test it. Does it look like a defect to you guys? Can I warranty it at Sears? I searched their website but the E14 socket is not listed at all.

If I remember correctly someone else tried to warranty abit from that set and they didn't sell singles. So they exchanged the whole kit.

Yeah, when I looked it up on sears.com, they only have E12 in 3/8 drive. Very weird! I'll bring it down to Sears and see how they deal with this.

The color seems off. But I'm not seeing anything that seems incorrect; the broached star pattern is larger than the E12. Then again, I don't view silver paint as a socket necessity.

The broached star pattern doesn't seem to "come out" enough grab the star head. When look directly down on these (like in the pic), that E14 seems inconsistent with the other ones next to it. But again, I haven't had a chance to test it on an E14 head to see if it would grab correctly and tightly enough.

So I took the set to Sears today, and the socket is not available separately at all, so they exchanged another set for me. We opened two other sets, and all the E sockets look like the one I thought was defective. So I finally decided to go with the new set with all the sockets looking alike.

Thats good ole' Bain Capital for ya. (I am sure ya'll have heard about how Mitt Romney bought all the Chinese manufacturers for GearWrench and APEX under his "Brookside Investments" Bain subsidiary... then had Bain buy APEX from Danaher. :p )
