I bought a new A50M2 key, for an older Gerstner machinist tool chest, through Gerstner in May for my completely stock Eagle clasp lock with the A50M2 key number embossed on it. Not only did the new key’s nose not allow the key to seat properly in the lock, but it also didn’t work after I filed the nose down per Gerstner’s included instructions. I don’t know the odds of this happening to anyone else, but I know it has. I’m not sure if a similar glitch exists for the older Eagle A41N series clasp locks, it may.
If you would like to know how to test your lock, mounted or unmounted, before trying to replace a lost key, a new Pg 251 has been added to ‘The’ Guide explaining this situation.
