My in-laws were very kind to buy me this seemingly quite early G.M. Yost No. 92B while out antiquing. It's not in my hands yet, and being curious I went on here to see what I could find out about it and perhaps narrow down a manufacturing time period. I'm also curious about the relationship of the Ajax name above the model number, was this who cast the vise for Yost? I was surprised to find only one other example of this vise on the forums through my extensive search, with no accompanying info. If nothing else, I thought I could spark conversation about this model of Yost vise and create a document for others to find in the future who run across the same vise. I've attached all the pictures I was sent.

Your vise style is referred to as an "oval slide vise", also called a "farmer's vise". They were produced by many different manufacturers, anywhere from the (1860's-1930's). The Yost "oval slide" vises were produced from the mid 1910's to the mid 1920's. I didn't find any printed information on what "Ajax" would be referring to.

When you get a chance, please post some more photo's of your rare Yost Ajax vise with the: jaw width, jaw opening and weight in the Vise Info Thread link below. It will be put into a spreadsheet for all to see.

Fierljeppen,
Thank you very much for the response and documentation! Is the catalog page from your personal collection? I was unable to find that anywhere else. Interesting, Ajax must simply be the name of the line of vises in that style from Yost? Also curious why the model number is followed with a B on the vise, but not in the catalog. Perhaps there are variations? I'm excited to get my hands on the vise, and will certainly add it to the Vise Info thread once I've got it.

Yes, the catalog page is from my personal collection, as there's not much information out there about the Yost Ajax vises.

Here's some other "Oval Slide" vise manufacturers, but certainly not all of them.
