I would say the OP is backwards. The ratchet with patent pending would be the first edition and the ones with patent numbers would then follow it.

Thanks. That ones my favorite too. The pending mark always makes dating something easier.

I think he concentrated on the pear head rats mostly ? but maybe he knows.



Incidentally the one with 4 patents skipped and when I got it apart I saw that the pawls were rounded and one of the pins that the pawls pivot on had a clear bend in it.
I think it takes some serious tourqe to bend such a short piece of steel.
Swapped the pawls n pins out, and kept the original drive plug housing thing whatever it's called. Works fine now.
