All,
I need some help identifying an unusual toolbox. I think it's an early truck box but not sure. What I can tell you that may or may not be obvious from the pics:
-it's about 5 ft long
- it has no visible makers mark or badging, although not sure what's under the many layers of paint on it
- seems to have been originally a dark red color. repainted many times, it seems
- it has 3 bays. the center bay is slightly wider than the two out bays
- I'm guessing that the latch on the far left bay was the original center latch. I think so because its brass and matches the brass hinge of the toolbox. The center latch that i think was added later is aluminum. If this is a truck box, it makes sense that an owner who used it outside might have wanted to keep one bay locked with valuable tools in it while working from the other two bays.
-it is very heavy gauge steel. the tool trays (six of them) all have welded corners. all the dividers in the tool boxes are welded in place too. (note the top trays are all uniquely divided)
- there are no slides on the tool trays they. they all simply slide back and forth metal to metal and are removable. the bottom trays push all the way back to give access to the main compartment of the toolbox.
- two chains support the center lid and the center lid supports the two outer lids.
Thanks in advance for your help.
