easco or s-k

I bid on what i thought was a 9 piece set of six point, 3/8 drive,deepwell,easco sockets.I have one easco socket,it looks like it is a very good socket and was excited about a full set of them.
I got the package today and in an easco labeled package is a nice set of s-k sockets.now i only paid twenty bucks and i do like s-k,but do you guys think i got short changed here.I will probably keep the sockets,but i want your opinions.

Ok good,i dont know much about easco,i have a few wrenches that look pretty rough,but the socket is nice.

Let's see, sockets from a company that is still in business that can be warrantied or sockets from a company that was absorbed by the Danaher tool Group several years ago? I think you got the better end of the deal with the SK sockets but, that's just me. By the way, anytime you see that red and blue packaging, it's from a company the repackages obsolete tools for resale. T & E tools was one of their names.

I would rather have S-K over Easco any day.

SK should almost always be chosen over Easco. Mind you Easco is good, but SK is better than except where the Easco FTRH ratchet is concerned. That is better than SK which is a very good ratchet in it's own right. You did good, keep them and enjoy using them.

Are you saying there were new SK sockets in the factory sealed and labeled Easco packaging?

For the money, I doubt I'd argue much. If the packaging looked tampered with I'd at least question the seller about what happened. There's a fair difference in appearance/design of Easco vs. SK deepwells.

good eye fedwrench you beat me to that i've seen that packaging before. usually good stuff but may be old styles or mismatched. better off with sk in my book also

Easco made an excellent tool for the era, and they still work today. They are generally warrantied with KD tools.

i wondered about that packaging too,i have seen it, usually on a dusty pegboard somewhere in the corner.I do like s-k quite a bit,i wasnt sure about the quality of easco,good to know.

Think old Craftsman mechanics tools when you think of Easco. They made most of them and the older Napa hand tools prior to being absorbed by Danaher under the KD banner. Easco also made many wrench and socket sets for the US Military and other government agencies. In fact in the early to mid 1980s Easco made a ton or two of metric wrench and socket sets to support the then newly fielded Humvee. To this day you can still find Easco stuff in pawn shops and flea markets around military bases.

On ebay I bought some Easco bit holders for 1/4" bits, to match my decades old Craftsman holders for 5/16" bits. Easco is the same design as my old Craftsman because Easco made stuff for Craftsman.

I wondered about the packaging. Shrink wrap on cardboard, and the package does not say Easco. The bits are stamped Easco. I thought is was NOS but then when I use to buy Easco stuff in the olden days it was not packaged like that.

Hmm, this probably explains why I see Easco and ProAmerica wrench sets for sale at the pawn shops from time to time. Most of the time they appear unused. I'd like to think that some Army or Airforce mechanic didn't rip them off or something.

i was inthe state excess inventory store one time and we picked up a kennedy machinist chest, thorsen 3/8 screwdriver handle in almost new cond. also a sk 3/8 spin handle and 3 snapon allen sockets brand new for our fire dept. later they decided they didn't need them so i took them off their hands as soon as icould . they were dirt cheap. i am positive they came from the nearby airforce base. there were hundreds of those sockets in a tub. iwish icould have gotten the whole thing to resell. could you imagine buying tools like that by the tub full. our gov. probably had bought a whole truck full . how is that for waste

a friend of mine got a set o easco wrenches at DRMO.govt. contract stuff.they are pretty rough.
